Mike Lee of Utah and Chuck Grassley of Iowa earlier this month. The pair of GOP lawmakers outlined potential personal interests in the decision from one member of AT&#038;T\u2019s board of directors. He also holds a financial stake in Dominion Voting Systems, which is suing OAN for its coverage of the 2020 election:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>1. One America News Network (\u2018OANN\u2019) is being sued for alleged defamation by Dominion Voting Systems.<\/p>\n<p>2. Dominion Voting Systems is owned by Staple Street Capital.<\/p>\n<p>3. William Kennard is on the executive board of Staple Street Capital.<\/p>\n<p>4. William Kennard is also the Chairman of AT&#038;T\u2019s board of directors. <\/p>\n<p>5. AT&#038;T owns 70% of DirectTV, and controls two seats on DirectTV\u2019s board of directors. <\/p>\n<p>6. DirectTV has decided not to renew its contract with OANN.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThese facts raise serious questions about the role of political influence in DirectTV\u2019s programming decisions,\u201d Lee and Grassley added, \u201cas well as whether AT&#038;T\u2019s Chairman has allowed personal financial considerations to influence his oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The senators gave AT&#038;T until April 4 to respond to questions about the company\u2019s decision to ax OAN from its lineup. <\/p>\n<p>OANN responded to DirectTV\u2019s January announcement it would not renew the companies\u2019 contract with a <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/21410177\/oann-lawsuit.pdf\">lawsuit<\/a> filed in early March. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAT&#038;T, AT&#038;T Services, and DIRECTV have bowed to political pressure and have put their<br \/>unlawful interests and the unlawful personal, political, and financial interests of their<br \/>management ahead of contractual and legal obligations,\u201d the network argued. <\/p>\n<p>While Fox News and Newsmax <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jemimamcevoy\/2020\/12\/21\/fox-news-newsmax-walk-back-election-fraud-claims-after-voting-machine-manufacturer-threatens-legal-action\/\">retracted<\/a> stories indicting Dominion Voting Systems, OANN never did. If DirectTV follows through on its promise to drop OANN from its airwaves, the network would be stripped of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/directv-to-drop-oan-conservative-news-channel-11642214811\">largest distributor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/593271-trump-calls-for-directtv-boycott-if-it-removes-oan\">called<\/a> for a boycott of DirectTV in response to its planned termination of the satellite provider\u2019s relationship with OANN.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
