But many members are not paying their dues, perhaps because Democrats perceive the 2022 midterm election as a lost cause. \u201cThe House Democratic majority is in deep trouble, with both history and the polls against them; and Republicans have overtaken what\u2019s been traditionally a large lead by the DCCC in fundraising, thanks in part to a huge spurt in online fundraising,\u201d Punchbowl noted.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>One congressional Democrat told the publication Pelosi is trying her best to force the \u201cdeadbeats\u201d to cough up the money by keeping a list of those who have not paid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe speaker is very focused on exactly who\u2019s paid dues and who hasn\u2019t. You really don\u2019t want to be on the wrong list right now,\u201d the member said.<\/p>\n<p>Many of those who are stiffing the committee are some of the most powerful and influential\u00a0members in the caucus, such as\u00a0Oversight Chair\u00a0Carolyn Maloney\u00a0(D-NY), Reps.\u00a0Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez\u00a0(D-NY),\u00a0Rashida Tlaib\u00a0(D-MI),\u00a0Ilhan Omar\u00a0(D-MN),\u00a0Cori Bush\u00a0(D-MO), and\u00a0Jamaal Bowman\u00a0(D-NY).<\/p>\n<p>Rep. G.K. Butterfield\u00a0(D-NC) has $685,000 in a campaign account, yet refuses to pay any dues.\u00a0Others stiffing the committee include Transportation and Infrastructure Chair<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Peter DeFazio\u00a0(D-OR) and Natural Resources Chair\u00a0Ra\u00fal Grijalva\u00a0(D-AZ).<\/p>\n<p>Many members who are running for different political positions or are retiring from Congress after the midterms also have unpaid dues. Those reportedly include\u00a0Reps.
