Kevin Stitt signed the \u201cSave Women\u2019s Sports Act\u201d into law Wednesday to ban biological men from competing in women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n<p>Female athletes and his fellow lawmakers gathered around Stitt\u2019s desk in the Oklahoma Capitol\u2019s Blue Room to sign S.B. 2 into law, which states that \u201c\u2018athletic teams designated for females, women, or girls shall not be open to students of the male sex.\u2019 The governor said passing the legislation \u201cis just common sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019re trying to accomplish here is very, very simple. We are protecting women\u2019s sports,\u201d the governor said. \u201cWe\u2019re ensuring a level playing field for female athletes who work hard, who train hard, who are committed to their team, who have dreams to be #1 in their sport, who deserve a fair competition.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Stitt said biological men have \u201cphysical advantages\u201d over women in a variety of sports due to their larger muscle mass, lungs and wider airways. He vowed to \u201cstand\u201d and \u201cprotect\u201d female athletes from unfair disadvantages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo how is it fair for female track athletes or swimmers who have been training since they were 12-years-old to lose in a high school competition to a biological male? It\u2019s not; it\u2019s simply not fair. And it will not happen in the state of Oklahoma.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill overwhelmingly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/23\/oklahoma-house-passes-save-womens-sports-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed<\/a> the Oklahoma Senate Wednesday with a 37-7 vote. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/25\/arizona-kentucky-oklahoma-transgender-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Three More States Consider Bills Banning Males From Girls\u2019 Sports)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma is among 14 states enacting restrictions on transgender athletics, along with Arizona, Kentucky and Utah. Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox initially <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/25\/utah-override-spencer-cox-biological-men-womens-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vetoed<\/a> his state\u2019s legislation banning biological men from women\u2019s athletics, but lawmakers overrode the governor\u2019s decision Friday after flipping 10 votes in the House and 5 in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Oklahoma state Sen. Michael Bergstrom, the bill\u2019s sponsor, <a href=\"https:\/\/ktul.com\/news\/local\/save-womens-sports-act-oklahoma-kevin-stitt-transgender-athletes-sports-lgbtq-senate-bill-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reiterated<\/a> the governor\u2019s statement that biological males have an unfair advantage when competing against female athletes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just saw an NCAA championship go to a biological male,\u201d state Sen. Michael Bergstrom said, referencing University of Pennsylvania transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. \u201cThe women that competed in that were angry that this was allowed to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Oklahoma <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acluok.org\/en\/press-releases\/aclu-oklahoma-statement-signing-discriminatory-save-womens-sports-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> the legislation creates \u201cbaseless fears\u201d about transgender athletics and sends a message that transgender people \u201care not welcome or accepted in our State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar pieces of legislation have been introduced in 25 states, with several grassroots organizations like the American Principles Project pushing the agenda, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/utah-transgender-sports-ban-3ffc9205bfbeb05ae3a72425950208ef\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>State lawmakers took action on women\u2019s sports in the aftermath of Thomas, a biological male,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/17\/lia-thomas-ncaa-championships-university-of-pennsylvania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">winning<\/a> the 500-freestyle at the NCAA Swimming Championships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Oklahoma Gov.
