Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) allegedly admitted to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) during a meeting on Wednesday that his claims that senior lawmakers have used cocaine in front of him and that they have invited him to their homes for orgies are not true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen all of a sudden you get invited. \u2018We\u2019re going to have a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come.\u2019 \u2018What did you just ask me to come to?\u2019 And then you realize they\u2019re asking you to come to an orgy,\u201d Cawthorn <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/30\/mccarthy-slams-cawthorn-says-rep-walked-back-coke-and-orgy-claims\/\">claimed<\/a> without any evidence during a podcast last week. \u201cYou watch them do a bump of cocaine right in front of you. And it\u2019s like, this is wild.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cawthorn\u2019s unsubstantiated claims set off a firestorm among House Republicans this week, which resulted in McCarthy having a meeting with Cawthorn.<\/p>\n<p>Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/cawthorn-mccarthy-orgy-cocaine-exaggerated-e801218d-aa88-4f15-8925-204348711ba0.html\">reported<\/a> on the meeting:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>McCarthy said Cawthorn conceded\u00a0some of his remarks were untrue and \u201cexaggerated.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI just told him he\u2019s lost my trust, he\u2019s gonna have to earn it back, and I laid out everything I find is unbecoming. And, you can\u2019t just say, \u2018You can\u2019t do this again.\u2019 I mean, he\u2019s got a lot of members very upset,\u201d McCarthy said. \u201cIn the interview, he claims he watched people do cocaine. Then when he comes in, he tells me, he says he thinks he saw maybe a staffer in a parking garage from 100 yards away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just frustrating. There\u2019s no evidence behind his statements,\u201d McCarthy continued. \u201cAnd when I sit down with him \u2026 I told him you can\u2019t make statements like that, as a member of Congress, that affects everybody else and the country as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Republican members said they intended to call out Cawthorn\u2019s claims by pushing him to name the lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it is important, if you\u2019re going to say something like that, to name some names,\u201d Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), chairman of the House Freedom Caucus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/03\/29\/cawthorn-orgies-freedom-caucus-00021548\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMadison\u2019s stuff irritates me because it\u2019s not true,\u201d Rep.
