Both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/disbursements\/?data_type=processed&#038;committee_id=C00010603&#038;two_year_transaction_period=2016&#038;recipient_state=WA&#038;disbursement_description=legal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DNC<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/disbursements\/?data_type=processed&#038;committee_id=C00431569&#038;committee_id=C00575795&#038;two_year_transaction_period=2016&#038;recipient_state=WA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clinton campaign<\/a> claimed all payments to Perkins Coie for legal services in filings with the FEC. This constituted a violation of campaign finance laws requiring organizations to truthfully describe payments to vendors, the FEC ruled on March 25.<\/p>\n<p>The FEC found \u201cprobable cause\u201d to believe that the DNC and the Clinton campaign did not correctly \u201cmake the purpose of the disbursement[s] clear\u201d in their filings, in a ruling first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/fec-fines-dnc-clinton-for-trump-dossier-hoax\">obtained<\/a> by the Washington Examiner. The FEC <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/6243b3f8b001843f2379a673\/t\/6244851767977b11cdb70469\/1648657687920\/20180801+FINAL+Steele+FEC+Complaint.pdf\">complaint<\/a> alleging misconduct was first filed by the conservative Coolidge Reagan Foundation in 2018. The DNC was ordered to pay a $105,000 fine, and the Clinton campaign was ordered to pay a $8,000 fine. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/05\/15\/clinton-campaign-hillary-payments\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Clinton Campaign Funneled $150,000 To Hillary Clinton\u2019s Personal Company)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis may well be the first time that Hillary Clinton\u2014evidently one of the most corrupt politicians in American history\u2014has actually been held legally accountable, and I\u2019m proud to see the FEC do its job for once,\u201d Coolidge Reagan attorney Dan Backer, who authored the FEC complaint, said in a statement. \u201cThe Coolidge Reagan Foundation proved that, with pluck and grit, Americans standing with integrity can stand up to the Clinton machine and other corrupt political elites. Clinton and her cronies willfully engaged in the greatest political fraud in history, destroying our nation\u2019s faith in the electoral process, and it\u2019s high time they were held accountable. Let\u2019s hope this is only the beginning for accountability, not the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DNC and the Clinton campaign argued that they did not violate election law because \u201cPerkins Coie retained Fusion GPS in furtherance of its legal services\u201d and that the Fusion GPS research \u201cwould assist Perkins Coie in providing legal advice.\u201d The respondents \u201cwill not further contest the Commission\u2019s finding,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/6243b3f8b001843f2379a673\/t\/624486ac6da88f37bd43e98d\/1648658094980\/MUR+7449+closing+letter+to+Coolidge+Reagan+Foundation.pdf\">filing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The DNC did not respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s requests for comment on the matter. Elizabeth Jones, the Clinton campaign\u2019s listed treasurer, c0uld not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Fusion GPS retained ex-British MI6 officer Christopher Steele with the funds provided by the DNC and the Clinton campaign. Steele went on to produce a since-debunked dossier <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/12\/09\/doj-watchdog-debunk-dossier\/\">alleging<\/a> that Clinton\u2019s opponent, then-candidate Donald Trump, was compromised by Russian intelligence services.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7400814\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7400814\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Former UK intelligence officer Christopher Steele arrives at the High Court in London on July 24, 2020, to attend his defamation trial brought by Russian tech entrepreneur Alexej Gubarev. Special Counsel John Durham has indicted two individuals for making false statements to federal officials as part of his investigation into the origins of a federal probe into Trump\u2019s alleged Russia connections. One defendant, former Perkins Coie attorney Michael <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/16\/lawyer-democratic-indicted-lying-fbi-russia-john-durham-donald-trump\/\">Sussmann<\/a>, passed documents to FBI general counsel James Baker purporting to show that a computer in Trump Tower was communicating with Alfa Bank, a financial institution located in Moscow. However, despite the fact that Perkins Coie\u2019s political division was working for the Clinton campaign, Sussmann denied to Baker that he was working for a particular client.<\/p>\n<p>Sussmann later allegedly billed the Clinton campaign for time spent disseminating the Alfa Bank allegations to the media.<\/p>\n<p>Igor <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/04\/igor-danchenko-arrested-christopher-steele-john-durham-fbi-trump\/\">Danchenko<\/a>, who Durham also charged with lying to investigators, worked as the lead researcher for the Steele Dossier.
