The Cook Political Report previously estimated that Democrats would net four to five seats in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The new, downgraded estimate is a sign that Republicans are posed to do better than expected in the redistricting battle.<\/p>\n<p>The stunning development comes after a Maryland judge on Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/25\/court-rejects-maryland-redistricting-gerrymandering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">struck down<\/a> a congressional map that bolstered Democrats, ruling the redistricting map violated the state\u2019s constitution. The Democrat-endorsed map would have created seven safe Democratic seats and one Republican-leaning seat. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/29\/ron-desantis-blocks-congressional-redistricting-florida-legislature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: DeSantis Blocks Congressional Maps Passed By Fellow Republicans)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf replaced [with] a neutral map, this could end up costing Dems 1-2 seats,\u201d Wasserman <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1507439887540273155\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> about the Maryland ruling.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7400649\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7400649\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maryland Governor Larry Hogan holds a news conference on the state\u2019s Covid-19 situation, at the Maryland State Capitol on August 5, 2021 in Annapolis, Maryland. (Photo by Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In January, the Ohio Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/14\/ohio-supreme-court-republican-congressional-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">threw out<\/a> the state\u2019s first attempt at redistricting, which bolstered Republicans, for violating the partisan-fairness requirement in the state constitution. Democrats challenged an updated congressional map that was put forward in March, but the court isn\u2019t expected to rule on the case until after the state\u2019s May 3rd primary, Cleveland.com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/news\/2022\/03\/ohio-supreme-court-sets-arguments-for-challenges-to-republican-congressional-map-past-start-of-voting-for-may-primary-election.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis schedule would seem to preclude a legal challenge to Ohio\u2019s GOP map before the May primary, paving the way for a map as lopsided as 13R-2D to be used for the 2022 elections \u2013 unless a federal court intervenes,\u201d Wasserman <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1508809243914346498\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are 10 solid R seats, two solid D seats and three competitive seats. There\u2019s a real chance of a 13R-2D rout in 2022,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Redistrict\/status\/1508839942889385987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">added<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ohio Supreme Court gave Democrats and Republicans 25 days to present their arguments for why the maps should or should not get the judiciary\u2019s sign off, according to Cleveland.com.
