Claudia Tenney is urging her state\u2019s comptroller to stop investing public pension funds in Chinese-run companies.<\/p>\n<p>The New York State Common Retirement Fund (NYSCRF) includes stocks and bonds from the Chinese private equity firm Boyu Capital, according to a March 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osc.state.ny.us\/files\/common-retirement-fund\/resources\/pdf\/march-2021.pdf\">disclosure<\/a> from New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. Boyu Capital\u2019s investment funds are primarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-boyu-capital-fundraising-exclusive\/exclusive-ant-investor-boyu-capital-targets-6-billion-for-new-private-equity-fund-sources-idUSKBN2AO0KK\">focused<\/a> on the tech sector, with investments in Jack Ma\u2019s Ant Group and Alibaba Group. The firm was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/co-founders-of-chinese-private-equity-firm-boyu-build-singapore-base-11614001812\">founded<\/a> by Alvin Jiang, the grandson of former President Jiang Zemin.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Boyu has moved operations to Singapore out of fear that Chinese President Xi Jinping will crack down on the firm. Xi has moved to reduce the influence of former Chinese Communist Party leaders like Jiang, and entrepreneurs like Ma. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/20\/jack-ma-china-billionaire-resurfaces-ccp-investigation-ant-group-alibaba\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Chinese Billionaire Jack Ma Resurfaces After Disappearing For Months During CCP Investigation)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Investments in Boyu and other Chinese firms \u201c<span class=\"a\">are completely unacceptable and encourage <\/span><span class=\"a\">the engagement in human rights abuses across the globe,\u201d Tenney wrote to DiNapoli in a letter, obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cM<span class=\"a\">any of your portfolio companies may be directly <\/span><span class=\"a\">contribu<span class=\"l6\">ting to illegal or otherwise destabilizing activities, including but not limited to <\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">supporting atrocities against the Uyghur population, the build-up of the Chinese military, and <\/span><span class=\"a\">unfair trade practices that have decimated our industrial base, including my Upstate district,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Read the letter here:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"View 03.30.22_DiNapoli China Divestment Letter_FINAL on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/567298890\/03-30-22-DiNapoli-China-Divestment-Letter-FINAL#from_embed\">03.30.22_DiNapoli China Div\u2026<\/a> by <a title=\"View Michael Ginsberg&#039;s profile on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/user\/548087574\/Michael-Ginsberg#from_embed\">Michael Ginsberg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>DiNapoli recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osc.state.ny.us\/press\/releases\/2022\/03\/nys-comptroller-dinapoli-prohibits-new-russian-investments-and-directs-investment-review\">announced<\/a> that NYSCRF would end new investments in Russian companies, and would review all current holdings with the possibility of divestment. NYSCRF also <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/09\/new-york-fossil-fuel-companies-divestment-climate-change\/\">divested<\/a> from 21 U.S.-based energy companies that DiNapoli believes will be prepared for a transition to green energy. He has announced a goal of a net-zero fund by 2040.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe retirements of those who faithfully served the public and earned their pensions should not be risked by irresponsible investments in Chinese companies, which openly ignore U.S. investor protections and act at the behest of the Chinese Communist Party. It is time to stop the flow of New York public pension funds to China, which is engaged in manifold human rights abuses, economic predation, intellectual property theft, and cyber-enabled tyranny.
