It is not to assess whether a nominee reflects the individual ideology of a senator or would vote exactly as an individual senator would want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Collins votes for Jackson, The Times reported, Vice President Kamala Harris would not have to cast the tie breaking vote \u2014 an \u201cunprecedented outcome that some saw as potentially damaging to the court\u2019s standing,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>Collins was also one of three Republicans to vote for Jackson to be confirmed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in June, according to The Times.<\/p>\n<p>Her announcement is bound to frustrate Republican senators, such as Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/do-you-regret-it-in-tense-exchange-on-child-pornography-judge-jackson-accuses-josh-hawley-of-preoccupation-with-small-subset-of-her-record\">highlighted<\/a> Jackson\u2019s record of repeatedly giving lenient sentences to criminals who watched or distributed child pornography.<\/p>\n<p>While Jackson and her allies have defended her record by saying that her sentences were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2022\/03\/the-facts-on-judge-jacksons-sentencing-in-child-porn-cases\/\">based off<\/a> the recommendations of probation officers, Hawley and other senators pointed out that Jackson\u2019s sentences were even more lenient than those recommended to her.<\/p>\n<p>Collins did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire on this point.<\/p>\n<p>The Maine senator also told The Times that Jackson had assured her that she would \u201cforever stay out of\u201d the issue of packing the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t expect that any of the justices I am going to agree with on every decision \u2014 that\u2019s impossible,\u201d the senator added. \u201cBut I do want them to be able to be devoid of prejudgement, partisanship, preference and to be impartial and rule consistent with legal precedent, the language of the law and the Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Collins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collins.senate.gov\/newsroom\/senator-collins%E2%80%99-statement-supreme-court-nomination\">voted against<\/a> Barrett in 2020, she said that the vote did not have to do with Barrett\u2019s character.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause this vote is occurring prior to the election, I will vote against the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett,\u201d she said in a statement. \u201cTo be clear, my vote does not reflect any conclusion that I have reached about Judge Barrett\u2019s qualifications to serve on the Supreme Court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I have concentrated on is being fair and consistent, and I do not think it is fair nor consistent to have a Senate confirmation vote prior to the election,\u201d Collins added, a sentiment widely expressed by Democrats at the time.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
