Is that something that the White House condones \u2014 that type of violence? Do you condemn it? And do you do anything to support comedians who have been attacked and other artists?\u201d Ateba asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t have any official comment from the White House on the altercation,\u201d said Bedingfield, sitting in for Press Secretary Jen Psaki, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know the president was not able to watch the Oscars \u2014 didn\u2019t see it,\u201d Bedingfield added. \u201cSo I don\u2019t have anything. I don\u2019t have any official comment from him or from the White House on this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Ateba asked: \u201cDo you condemn the violence at the Oscars? Is that something that you condemn?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t have a White House comment on that,\u201d Bedingfield said.<\/p>\n<p>Rock was on the stage Sunday cracking wise about all the celebrities in the star-studded theater. Then he got to actor Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJada, I love you, G.I. Jane 2, can\u2019t wait to see it. All right?\u201d Rock said with his trademark laugh at his own punchline. The joke was a reference to a movie that starred Demi Moore as a Navy lieutenant in which the actress sports a shaved head. Jada Pinkett Smith, too, has a shaved head, because she suffers from alopecia.<\/p>\n<p>While she rolled her eyes a bit and didn\u2019t laugh, her husband guffawed heartily, a big smile on his face. \u201cThat was a nice one, OK?\u201d Rock said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m out here \u2013\u201d Rock then said before breaking off. \u201cUh oh. Richard?\u201d he said, referring to Will Smith\u2019s part playing the father of Serena and Venus Williams\u2019 father in \u201cKing Richard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Viewers couldn\u2019t see yet, just Rock\u2019s face on the TV screen, but as the camera pulled back, Smith, 6\u20192\u2033, was striding up the stage toward Rock, 5\u201910\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Smith took a mighty swipe, not with a fist but an open hand, toward Rock, still jutting his chin out and to the left. Slow-motion clips show it was a glancing blow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh wow,\u201d Rock said. \u201cWow. Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The camera then cut to Smith, by now back in his seat.
