Elise Stefanik (R-NY) weighed in on the U.S. Senate primary race in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, declaring her endorsement for Republican businessman David McCormick, one of the race\u2019s frontrunning candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik, the House GOP Conference chair, said in a statement to Breitbart News she is \u201cproud\u201d to back McCormick, a former hedge fund CEO and Army veteran running in a packed primary field in a race less than two months away.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cDave McCormick served our country on the frontlines of the Gulf War, and I know he will continue to honorably serve the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and our great nation, which is why I\u2019m proud to endorse him for U.S. Senate,\u201d Stefanik said.<\/p>\n<p>McCormick, a Pennsylvania native who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/22\/exclusive-populist-potential-ceo-of-worlds-largest-hedge-fund-plans-to-go-full-maga-in-looming-pennsylvania-senate-bid\/\">grew up<\/a> in Bloomsburg, graduated from West Point before serving as an Army Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq during the Gulf War.<\/p>\n<p>His lengthy resume also includes receiving a PhD from Princeton, working in the Treasury Department under former President George W. Bush, and serving as president and later CEO of Bridgewater Associates, which <em>Forbes<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/ray-dalio\/?sh=1470988e663a\">bills<\/a> as the largest hedge fund in the world.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Stefanik praised McCormick\u2019s business background, saying, \u201cDave\u2019s battle-tested experience, including serving in the military, negotiating tough trade deals at the highest levels of government, and creating thousands of jobs running two successful businesses, makes him the best candidate to bring back pro-growth, America First policies and conservative principles to the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik, whose conference chair position makes her the third-ranking Republican in the House, has been aggressively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elevate-pac.com\/\">focused<\/a> on promoting Republican women in Congress through her committee E-PAC. But the congresswoman has also backed other candidates, including Rep. (AP Photo\/Chris Pizzello)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Oz has the benefit of name recognition from his years hosting the <em>Dr. Oz Show.<\/em>\u00a0The TV star also boasts a prominent endorsement from Sean Hannity and is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/dr-oz-fan-mar-lago-melania-trump-rcna20641\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rumored<\/a> to appeal to first lady Melania Trump. But Oz\u2019s background has been scrutinized amid his bid for office, and unearthed views that run counter to conservativism threaten his campaign. Oz, for instance, has a history of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/29\/busted-mehmet-ozs-claims-did-not-write-gun-control-columns-disintegrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advocating<\/a> for gun restrictions and was\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/02\/12\/family-company-of-dr-oz-had-largest-fine-in-ice-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found<\/a>\u00a0to have ownership in a company fined for employing illegal aliens.<\/p>\n<p>Oz\u2019s candidacy has also\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" title=\"This external link will open in a new window\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/02\/16\/doctor-oz-close-ties-to-turkey-raise-concern-about-senate-candidacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brought<\/a>\u00a0to light questions about his deep roots in Turkey. Oz has dual-citizenship in Turkey and the U.S. and once served as a medical aid in the Turkish military. While Oz has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/patriotism-unity\/my-familys-immigrant-story-and-why-i-decided-to-run\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> he maintains his citizenship in Turkey to be able to more easily visit his ailing mother, his critics have called his allegiances into question given the unprecedented nature of serving in Congress while being a citizen elsewhere. Oz has responded by saying he would renounce his Turkish citizenship but says he will only do so if he is elected to Congress. A recent Washington Free Beacon poll reinforced the citizenship concerns, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/elections\/free-beacon-poll-mccormick-overtakes-oz-in-pa-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finding<\/a> that a majority, or 66 percent, of poll respondents were \u201ccritical of Oz\u2019s close ties to Turkey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Oz, also in the mix of primary candidates are military veteran Kathy Barnette, real estate developer Jeff Bartos, and former Trump Administration Ambassador to Denmark Carla Sands. The latest poll, taken by Fox News,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/PA-cross-tabs_Sen-Gov-Primaries_R_conducted-March-2-6_release-March-8-2022.pdf\">showed<\/a>\u00a0all three in the single digits behind McCormick and Oz, although a plurality of respondents in that poll, or 31 percent, said they were still undecided on a candidate.<\/p>\n<p>While former President Donald Trump has been relatively quiet on the race so far, big-name endorsements like the one that just came from Stefanik have game-changing potential in the Keystone State, a populous battleground where the Republican Senate candidate is likely to face either the Democrats\u2019 current frontrunning candidate, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, or Rep. Conor Lamb (D-PA), who has been trailing Fetterman in polls.<\/p>\n<p>The two Republican frontrunners, Oz and McCormick, will face each other for the first time in a Senate candidate forum <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PoliticsPA\/status\/1508864018433417224?s=20&#038;t=cKqwvmlGkcnXVXa7Hae7Bg\">hosted<\/a> by the Manufacturer &#038; Business Association Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. Bartos and Barnette are also expected to participate in the forum.<\/p>\n<p>The primary will take place May 17.<\/p>\n<p><em>Write to Ashley Oliver at <a href=\"mailto:aoliver@breitbart.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aoliver@breitbart.com<\/a>.
