Andrew Cuomo (D) would present a significant challenge to Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) if he decides to run in the Democrat Primary, a new Siena College <a href=\"https:\/\/scri.siena.edu\/2022\/03\/28\/hochul-has-commanding-lead-over-williams-with-cuomo-in-race-hochul-leads-38-30-other-two-way-behind\/\">poll<\/a> found.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thirty percent of New York Democrats would support Cuomo if he ran for governor, despite the\u00a0allegations of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/20\/ny-trooper-sues-andrew-cuomo-alleges-sexual-harassment\/\">sexual assault<\/a> which led to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/10\/andrew-cuomo-announces-resignation-governor-new-york\/\">resignation<\/a>\u00a0and the ongoing evaluation of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/16\/report-new-york-gov-andrew-cuomo-failed-to-account-for-4100-nursing-home-deaths\/\">undercounted nursing home deaths<\/a>\u00a0during his coronavirus response. Hochul had a slight lead over Cuomo (if he were to run), with 38 percent of New York Democrats saying they would cast their vote for her. Hochul was Cuomo\u2019s Lt. governor and stepped up to run the state after Cuomo stepped down in disgrace.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>If Cuomo stays out of the race, Hochul would have 52 percent of Democrat support compared to challengers Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) with 11 percent and\u00a0<span>New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams with 12 percent. If Cuomo enters the race, Suozzi would trail with 10 percent and Williams with seven percent support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>According to the survey, Hochul has a 45-35 percent favorability rating overall and a 67-17 favorability rating within her own party.\u00a0<span>Williams has a 24-19 percent favorability rating, and 40-13 percent with Democrats. Suozzi\u2019s favorability rating is 20-18 percent and 25-16 percent with Democrats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Cuomo had a lopsided favorability rating overall, 32 percent to 60 percent, though Democrats favored him more than they disfavored him, 50 percent to 42 percent. However, when asked what Cuomo\u2019s next move should be, 67 percent said he should \u201cnot run for governor in 2022,\u201d and only 18 percent said he should run in the Democrat primary. Ten percent said he should run as an independent in November.\u00a0<\/span><span>Out of the New York Democrats polled, more than half \u2014 54 percent \u2014 said \u201cdon\u2019t run.\u201d Thirty-three percent said he should run in the primary and eight percent said he should run as an independent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHochul has 50-point net positive favorability rating among Democrats, compared to Cuomo\u2019s eight-point net positive rating. More than half of Democrats don\u2019t want Cuomo to run for governor this year and only one-third say he should run in the primary,\u201d S<\/span><span>iena College pollster Steven Greenberg said.\u201cDespite all that, Cuomo would be very much in the game \u2013 if he decides to put himself in the game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Hochul and Cuomo \u201ctied in New York City:\u201d Hochul led the poll by eight points in the downstate suburbs and 25 points upstate, Greenberg said. Cuomo had a \u201ctwo-to-one lead\u201d with black Democrats, whereas Hochul had a comparable lead with white Democrats. Latinos were \u201cclosely divided.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cInterestingly, while Hochul leads among men by 15 points, she only leads with women by four points,\u201d the pollster found.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The poll\u00a0was conducted March 20-24, 2022 among 804 New York State registered voters. The overall margin of error is\u00a0 +\/- 4.2 percentage points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former New York Gov.
