He wouldn\u2019t weigh in on her texts, noting she\u2019s a \u2018private citizen,&#8217;\u201d Raju tweeted Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Raju continued, noting that high-ranking Democrats have claimed that there is a conflict of interest and that Thomas should recuse himself from cases about the Capitol riot. \u201c[Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick] Durbin and [Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard] Blumenthal said he should recuse,\u201d Raju tweeted. \u201cBlumenthal told us he believes Senate Judiciary should probe the matter, and added that judges should recuse if there\u2019s even an appearance of a conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dems say there\u2019s a conflict and he should recuse from Jan. 6 cases. Frankly, I think it\u2019s kind of misogynistic,\u201d Hawley said, as quoted by Raju. \u201cShe\u2019s a private individual. He\u2019s a justice on the US Supreme Court, but I think this idea that he is somehow automatically responsible for everything [she] says \u2013 what does that mean? The texts reportedly urged him to continue fighting against the 2020 election results, which she called \u201cthe greatest Heist of our History.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The texts were revealed in documents obtained by the House Committee investigating January 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the good of the court I think he should recuse himself from those cases,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/600066-judiciary-committee-chair-calls-on-justice-thomas-to-recuse-himself-from-jan\">Durbin said<\/a>, adding that Ginni Thomas\u2019s texts \u201creally creates an obvious conflict\u201d for the Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer concurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe information we know right now raises serious questions about how close Justice Thomas and his wife were to [the events of January 6],\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c5008472\/senator-schumer-justice-thomas-recuse-jan-6-cases\">Schumer<\/a> said at a press conference Tuesday, adding that, in his opinion, \u201cthere should be some kind of code of ethics for Supreme Court justices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Progressive Democrats in the House of Representatives, meanwhile, have gone further, calling for Thomas to be impeached and removed outright.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), explained her reasoning in a long <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AOC\/status\/1508829335263797251?s=20&#038;t=G6XiExjOnub1YbYUAMuQGg\">Twitter thread<\/a> Tuesday. \u201c[We] shouldn\u2019t dismiss actions available re: Clarence Thomas\u2019 acts,\u201d AOC wrote. \u201cSubpoenas, investigations, and impeachment should absolutely be on the table. We shouldn\u2019t have to think twice about that. We must go where the facts take us. A failure to act puts the imperiling of democracy squarely on *our* shoulders.
