They\u2019re very sophisticated technologically, but they aren\u2019t necessarily that interested in the child pornography piece of it?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Judge Jackson has opined there may be a type of \u201cless-serious child pornography offender\u201d whose motivation is not sexual but \u201cis the challenge, or to use the technology.\u201d A \u201cless-serious\u201d child porn offender? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2bb1rZuTXW\">pic.twitter.com\/2bb1rZuTXW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HawleyMO\/status\/1504221942903197699?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 16, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fottrell\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ussc.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/amendment-process\/public-hearings-and-meetings\/20120215-16\/Hearing_Transcript_20120215.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0Jackson it is \u201cdifficult\u201d to say those kinds of offenders are \u201cnot dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Jackson then went on to talk about how she \u201cmistakingly assumed that child pornography offenders are pedophiles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I\u2019m trying to understand this category of non-pedophiles who obtain child pornography. And are those the people who you are saying are the nonsexually motivated offenders?\u201d Jackson\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ussc.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/amendment-process\/public-hearings-and-meetings\/20120215-16\/Hearing_Transcript_20120215.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Abel told Jackson, \u201cI think you ought to keep your previous definition, quite frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abel\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ussc.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/amendment-process\/public-hearings-and-meetings\/20120215-16\/Hearing_Transcript_20120215.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>There are individuals who collect. And sometimes they\u2019ll collect ten gigs of images, and they won\u2019t look at them. They are collectors. But that\u2019s kind of rare. There are people who collect just for collecting purposes, you know, but the majority of these individuals are collecting over time. If they\u2019re collecting over time, then they have interest over time. If it\u2019s greater than six months, they meet the definition of pedophilia. So that\u2019s why I say in general I would keep your old definition as being accurate. But I would agree that there are other reasons that people get involved in looking at child pornography, but I\u2019ll put my nickel on pedophilia.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jackson\u2019s lenient sentences for child sex offenders were thrown into the forefront of her confirmation hearings after Missouri Sen.
