The bill\u2019s passage is monumental, as Congress previously failed to pass federal anti-lynching legislation over 200 times, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/biden-sign-legislation-named-emmett-till-making-lynching\/story?id=83739175\">according<\/a> to ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, after signing the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/07\/26\/doj-mississippi-emmett-till-photo\/\">legislation<\/a>, highlighted \u201cthe lie that not everyone \u2026 is created equal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTerror, to systematically undermine hard fought civil rights, terror, not just in the dark of night but in broad daylight. Innocent men, women and children, hung by nooses, from trees, bodies burned and drowned, castrated,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir crimes?\u201d the president continued. \u201cTrying to vote, trying to go to school, trying to own a business or preach the gospel.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/23\/two-people-charged-homicide-hate-crime-killing-black-navy-veteran-justin-peoples-says-district-attorney\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Two Charged With Homicide, Hate Crime In Killing Of Black Navy Veteran, Says DA)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Emmett Till Anti-lynching Act is named after Emmett Till, a 14-year-old who was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/06\/virginia-lieutenant-governor-justin-fairfax-sexual-assault-allegations-compares-george-floyd-emmett-till\/\">murdered<\/a> in Mississippi in 1955.<\/p>\n<p>Accused of whistling at a white woman, Till <a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/the-death-of-emmett-till\">was tortured<\/a>, had his eye gouged out and was then shot in the head by the woman\u2019s brother and husband. The duo later tied up Till\u2019s body to a cotton-gin fan with barbed wire and threw him in the river.<\/p>\n<p>The new law means an individual charged with lynching can face up to 30 years in prison, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/biden-sign-legislation-named-emmett-till-making-lynching\/story?id=83739175\">according<\/a> to ABC News.
