These are people who have undergone solid organ transplantation, or who are living with conditions that are considered to have an equivalent level of immunocompromise.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><i>A second booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered at least 4 months after the first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 18 years of age and older with the same certain kinds of immunocompromise.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cCurrent evidence suggests some waning of protection over time against serious outcomes from COVID-19 in older and immunocompromised individuals. Based on an analysis of emerging data, a second booster dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine could help increase protection levels for these higher-risk individuals,\u201d Peter Marks, M.D., Ph.D., director of the FDA\u2019s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cAdditionally, the data show that an initial booster dose is critical in helping to protect all adults from the potentially severe outcomes of COVID-19. So, those who have not received their initial booster dose are strongly encouraged to do so,\u201d Marks added.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/03\/29\/world\/covid-19-mandates-cases-vaccine\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will likely put forward advice on who should think about getting the dose as early as Tuesday.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cAs of late last week, officials were planning to present the second booster essentially as an option that older Americans or people with underlying medical conditions should consider, rather than recommending it outright,\u201d the outlet noted.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">In a move that could be deemed controversial by many, the approval went <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/fda-authorizes-2nd-covid-booster-shot-people-50-older-rcna21824\"><span class=\"s1\">around<\/span><\/a> the independent panels of the FDA and CDC, which have given guidance to the agencies over the course of the pandemic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/fda-authorizes-2nd-covid-booster-shot-people-50-older-rcna21824\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a>, \u201cDuring a call with reporters, Dr. Peter Marks, the FDA\u2019s top vaccine regulator, said officials didn\u2019t seek the advice of the committees because they believe the risk of harm from an additional shot, including the risk of myocarditis, is low. He said it\u2019s possible Americans may need to get yet another dose of a Covid vaccine this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThat later dose, Marks said, may not be the same version of the shots currently in use \u2014 regulators may transition to a variant-specific vaccine or one that targets more than one strain. Both Pfizer and Moderna are testing a vaccine that targets the omicron variant. Moderna is\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">also testing a shot\u00a0<\/span>that targets both the delta and omicron variants,\u201d the outlet added.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cAt some point, we are going to have to realize that this is a virus that\u2019s going to be with us and that we have to come to grips with dealing with it on a regular basis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Wall Street Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/fda-authorizes-second-covid-19-booster-shot-for-older-adults-11648564824\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> that around two-thirds of adults over 65 years of age have gotten a booster shot thus far, while fewer than half of adults have.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Journal pointed to a recent survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation which showed that around 23% of people who got at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot said they definitely won\u2019t receive a booster. Additionally, 24% said they would only get a booster if they were made to do so. The remainder stated they would get the dose or wait and see.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">As soon as the CDC gives its approval, the boosters will be at doctor offices, pharmacies, nursing home facilities, and other vaccination centers, per The Journal.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The desire of many Americans to get an additional vaccine dose may be waning even more in recent weeks than it was when the first boosters were approved, especially after the Omicron variant swept through the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">A new subvariant of Omicron called BA.2 is reportedly spreading across the United States, \u201cnow accounting for more than a third of all COVID-19 infections, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/03\/21\/covid-strain-ba2-omicron-subvariant\/\"><span class=\"s1\">data<\/span><\/a>\u00a0published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),\u201d The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fauci-doesnt-expect-another-surge-in-cases-even-as-new-variant-of-covid-19-sweeps-across-u-s\"><span class=\"s1\">reported<\/span><\/a> last week.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">However, Dr. Anthony Fauci doesn\u2019t anticipate a massive surge in cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cThe bottom line is we\u2019ll likely see an uptick in cases, as we\u2019ve seen in the European countries, particularly the U.K.,\u201d Fauci reportedly said on ABC. \u201cHopefully we won\u2019t see a surge \u2014 I don\u2019t think we will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Daily Wire highlighted, \u201cSeveral studies have found that BA.2 is even more transmissible than an earlier variant, BA.1, but still most scientists are not concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
