It starts at the 1:22 minute mark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank God he\u2019s okay, so let me start with the lead,\u201d Kelly shared, noting that Thatcher is a good skier and was on an advanced run when the accident happened. \u201cAnd did the run just fine. \u2026 But was inspired by this cave-like structure that was on the run to check it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former Fox News host said her son was with his instructor at a place people like to \u201chike up to \u2026 and take a little break.\u201d The host shared that it was at the end of the day, her son was tired and \u201capparently didn\u2019t have the strength to make the climb.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>\u201cAnd he fell,\u201d Kelly shared, as she explained getting a call from her husband Doug, that Thatcher needed to go to the hospital. \u201cAnd I get in the ambulance. He seems okay. He\u2019s speaking he says he fell ten feet and landed on some rocks while hiking up this part of the mountain. But he\u2019s got an IV in him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said at that point she wondered what was going on and the emergency crew said it was \u201cprotocol\u201d when there was an internal injury. Kelly said she questioned the person further, and they explained that given the fact that he fell on rocks and the \u201cpain he\u2019d been complaining of,\u201d it was warranted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we get to the hospital and they say they need to run some tests,\u201d the host shared about how an ultrasound on belly was first done and came up with nothing.\u00a0Then she said the hospital did a CT scan \u2026\u201d and lo and behold there was internal bleeding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he had lacerated, had to two severe lacerations to his spleen and a third the size of which they weren\u2019t able to determine, she added. \u201cSo, three tears of his spleen\u2026and he was bleeding internally and they said you need to go to a more serious hospital right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said they got back in the ambulance, got to the other hospital and they \u201cwhisk him into the ICU\u201d and she said at that point she wondered what the heck was going on. Kelly said a very nice nurse finally sat her down and explained the tears to the spleen were \u201cvery severe\u201d and that there was a good chance he would loose his spleen. The host said the surgeon came in and said he hoped Thatcher wouldn\u2019t \u201close his spleen\u201d but that if the \u201cbleeding continued\u201d they were going to take it.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, Kelly and Doug reached out to their doctors back home to get some guidance on what to do, admitting she didn\u2019t know what to do.\u00a0Her doctor said without question they were advised \u201cdon\u2019t lose the spleen\u201d and told other options they could do instead.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital said that it was a level 3 trauma center, not a level 1 trauma center and at one point, they were getting suggestions to order a med-evac to transport him to a level one trauma center with a pediatric specialist or at least an \u201cinterventional radiologist\u201d which she said was needed to \u201crepair the spleen.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We had a scare w\/our youngest over spring break (he\u2019s ok, thank God). But one is reminded of what matters in those moments, and it\u2019s not partisan B.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XWZcpysOyf\">https:\/\/t.co\/XWZcpysOyf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Megyn Kelly (@megynkelly) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/megynkelly\/status\/1508569006285938691?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOur surgeon was saying \u2018don\u2019t move him \u2026 he needs to be in the ICU, he needs to be in the hospital bed,&#8217;\u201d Kelly shared. \u201c\u2018And he is not allowed to even get up and go to the bathroom. He can not leave the bed.\u2019 Because the bleeding\u2019s not stopping. We don\u2019t want him to lose the spleen. If there\u2019s anyway of repairing it we\u2019d like to do that. But it\u2019s not safe to move him. We\u2019re looking into the med-evac flights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They decided not to move him and the trauma center found an interventional radiologist, who was not a pediatric specialist, but if things \u201cwent south\u201d that person would be there. After a few more scary moments, but things leveled off and he got better. After six days, the former NBC host said her son got to leave that hospital and go home.<\/p>\n<p>It was then that Kelly broke down during her show and got emotional about the traumatic experience their whole family had gone through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, the amount of stress and the love that you have for your children,\u201d Kelly said through teary eyes. \u201cAnd the frigility of these little bodies who totally depend on you. And the enormous responsibility you have for their well being you know for making huge decisions. And the importance of family and friends right, and good colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She grabbed a tissue and blotted her eyes and explained that it left her thinking about the saying a guest once mentioned to her \u2014 that the only thing that matters in life is \u201cwithin 15 feet of you\u201d \u2014 and she said she found that to be true as she thanked her audience for the\u00a0\u201cconnection\u201d she said was \u201cvaluable\u201d to her as well.<\/p>\n<p><i>Enter for the chance to hang out with Gina Carano at the premiere of her new Daily Wire movie, Terror on the Prairie!
