A charge of assault was dropped after the prosecution did not present any evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor in the case, Ashley Petchey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-england-essex-60900298\">said<\/a> according to the BBC: \u201cClearly, this was an incident where there was a risk, even if no injury was caused.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Mr Petchey admitted that the single mother was not using \u201cexcessive speed\u201d and had used the \u201cbreaks quite heavily\u201d but said that her Range Rover came \u201cvery close to the female protester\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>On top of the driving ban, the prosecution is also seeking Speid to pay \u00a3310 to cover court costs. The group is reported to have cost the taxpayer some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/12\/30\/insulate-britain-road-blockades-cost-taxpayer-4-3-million-in-policing\/\">\u00a34.3 million in policing costs<\/a>, alone, let aside the financial impacts on disruptions caused to businesses.<\/p>\n<p>While Extinction Rebellion has mostly focussed its efforts in wealthy city centres, the trademark of Insulate Britain so far has been to block\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/09\/24\/insulate-britain-demands-churchillian-response-expands-protests-and-blocks-major-port\/\">major motorways<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/09\/29\/eco-nutters-shut-down-british-motorway-again-after-promised-govt-crackdown\/\">junctions<\/a>\u00a0throughout the country, resulting in chaos and delays for average workers simply trying to commute to their jobs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Extinction Rebellion, for its part, also drew the ire of the nation after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2019\/10\/17\/watch-climate-protesters-climbing-london-underground-trains-physically-removed-angry-public\/\">climbing on top of subway trains<\/a> at the\u00a0Canning Town tube stop in 2019, before being dragged off by angry commuters. The group later apologised, and the activists were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10627551\/Extinction-Rebellion-activists-scaled-Tube-Canning-Town-admit-got-wrong.html\">spared jail time<\/a>. While the commuters were initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/10175331\/cops-investigate-commuters-extinction-rebellion-chaos-protester-tube-train\/\">reported<\/a> to have been under police investigation for dragging the climate loons off the trains, it does not appear that any will be charged.<\/p>\n<p>Like their XR counterparts, Insulate Britain activists have frequently taken to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/10\/26\/not-one-of-my-better-moves-eco-nutter-regrets-gluing-his-face-to-road\/\">glueing themselves to the roads<\/a> in order to slow down their removal by police.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the disruption to the lives of ordinary workers, the\u00a0road blockades have also resulted in some\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/09\/21\/woman-paralysed-by-stroke-after-delay-caused-by-eco-protests-on-m25-claim\/\">serious injury<\/a>\u00a0for people who were prevented from reaching medical care.
