Cupp exposed a double standard in the media on Sunday, and CNN host Brian Stelter could not answer for it.<\/p>\n<h3>What happened?<\/h3>\n<p>During a discussion on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;Reliable Sources&#8221; <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/ginni-thomas-texts-meadows-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">about the controversial text messages<\/a> of Virginia &#8220;Ginni&#8221; Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Cupp said the media&#8217;s reaction highlights an awful double standard and rush to judgement.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point? Cupp said look no further than the deliberate suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The conflicts have been, you know, questioned by everyone, including, like, Sean Hannity,&#8221; Cupp said of Justice Thomas and his wife, adding that &#8220;outrage is warranted&#8221; and that Justice Thomas should be examined to determine whether he has a conflict of interest.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But,&#8221; Cupp continued, &#8220;you don\u2019t have to look far to find a very similar story that was really ignored by the media and, in fact, called false over and over and over again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span><\/span>&#8220;That\u2019s the Hunter Biden laptop story,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;Hunter Biden is a relative of a very famous person the way Ginni Thomas is a relative of a very powerful, famous person. My Twitter feed is clogged with blue-check reporters who are instantly believing that there is some tie between Ginni and Clarence, and, you know, the rush to dismiss Hunter as not a relevant story by lots of reporters is hard to ignore.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"shortcode-media shortcode-media-youtube\">\n        <span class=\"rm-shortcode\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"b596b2c6bc5c9eee1138ae1890d2813f\">[embedded content]<\/span><br \/>\n        <small class=\"image-media media-caption\">CNN 03 27 2022 11 07 28<\/small><br \/>\n        <small class=\"image-media media-photo-credit\"><br \/>\n            <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vuH3KnZDg2M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.youtube.com<\/a><br \/>\n        <\/small>\n        <\/p>\n<p>Stelter, however, did not respond to Cupp&#8217;s observation, instead asking New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer about Cupp&#8217;s point. After stumbling over her words, Mayer said there is &#8220;no shortage of legal interest in Hunter Biden,&#8221; referring to Justice Department and IRS investigations. <\/p>\n<p>Cupp fired back, &#8220;Yes, but the legal interest in the Hunter Biden story would make the journalism interest, I think, more warranted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the end, no member of the panel answered Cupp&#8217;s point. Instead, Stelter transitioned to discussing &#8220;right-wing \u2014 these GOP senators come up with culture war arguments&#8221; against Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson during her Senate confirmation hearings last week so that they &#8220;could get booked on Fox [News] that night.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>What is the background?<\/h3>\n<p>The media infamously downplayed the Hunter Biden laptop story when it broke in October 2020. First <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/19\/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dismissed as Russian disinformation<\/a>, a claim <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/intelligence-director-hunter-biden-laptop-russia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">debunked<\/a> by then-Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/twitter-completely-censors-new-york-posts-hunter-biden-story-users-cant-even-send-it-in-dms\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> and <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2020\/10\/14\/hunter-biden-laptop-story-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> worked overtime to block the story from being shared on their platforms.<\/p>\n<p>The Bidens, however, never directly denied that the laptop belonged to Hunter; the media simply did their bidding. But last fall, a Politico reporter <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/politico-reporter-verifies-authenticity-of-hunter-biden-emails\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> the Post&#8217;s story. Finally, the New York Times <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/ny-times-bombshell-admissions-hunter-biden-laptop-story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admitted<\/a> this month the authenticity of the emails, confirming what the Post originally reported. <\/p>\n<p>Through uninterested media, President Joe Biden has avoided scrutiny related to the scandal during his presidency. In fact, the Media Research Center <a data-ol-has-click-handler=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/scott-whitlock\/2022\/03\/28\/its-been-259-days-network-newscasts-said-words-hunter-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that NBC News, CBS News, and ABC News have not even mentioned Hunter Biden on their morning or evening broadcasts in more than 250 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CNN political commentator S.E.
