Those worries were spiked this March 26 when Biden seemed to declare a virtual war on Russia\u2019s dictator, Vladimir Putin, by declaring, \u201cfor God\u2019s sake, this man cannot remain in power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those worries are also worrying Americans.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BIDEN ON PUTIN: &#8220;For God&#8217;s sake, this man cannot remain in power.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RJ3vCwRRq7\">pic.twitter.com\/RJ3vCwRRq7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Benny (@bennyjohnson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bennyjohnson\/status\/1507779734293336066?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 26, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Only 12 percent of the 1,000 likely voters who were polled have \u201ca great deal of confidence,\u201d in President Joe Biden\u2019s ability to manage the crisis caused by the escalating war between Ukraine and Russia, says an NBC poll. The March 18-22 poll\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/21554083-nbc-news-march-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">showed<\/a>\u00a0that just 16 percent of respondents have \u201cquite a bit of confidence,\u201d while 71 percent have \u201cjust some\u201d or \u201cvery little\u201d confidence in Biden\u2019s management of the crisis with post-Cold War, nuclear-armed Russia.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rasmussenreports.com\/platinum\/political_tracking_crosstabs\/march_2022\/crosstabs_russia_nuclear_power_march_9_10_2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 9-10 poll<\/a> by Rasmussen showed that 77 percent of 1,000 likely voters are concerned Russia will use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, and 38 percent are concerned Russia may use nuclear weapons against the United States.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The new Rasmussen poll asked likely voters to agree or disagree with the statement, \u201cThe Biden administration is making a colossal mistake in thinking that it can protract the war in Ukraine, bleed Russia dry, topple Putin and signal to China to keep its hands off Taiwan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fifty percent agreed with the statement \u2014 including 29 percent who strongly agreed and 21 percent who somewhat agreed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Thirty-five percent disagreed that Biden\u2019s policy is a mistake, including 13 percent who strongly disagreed and 22 percent who somewhat disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans split 57 percent agree to 25 disagree, and moderates split 43 percent agree to 37 percent disagree. Asians and Latinos split 56 percent agreed, 30 percent disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats split 47 percent agree to 41 percent disagree. But the party\u2019s core of liberals trust Biden \u2014 only split 43 percent agree with the statement, while 45 percent disagree with the statement.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The \u201ccolossal mistake\u201d statement comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2022-03-22\/niall-ferguson-putin-and-biden-misunderstand-history-in-ukraine-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an op-ed<\/a> by British historian Niall\u00a0Ferguson, posted at Bloomberg.com:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe only end game now,\u201d a senior administration official was heard to say at a private event earlier this month, \u201cis the end of Putin regime. Until then, all the time Putin stays, [Russia] will be a pariah state that will never be welcomed back into the community of nations. China has made a huge error in thinking Putin will get away with it. Seeing Russia get cut off will not look like a good vector and they\u2019ll have to re-evaluate the Sino-Russia axis. All this is to say that democracy and the West may well look back on this as a pivotal strengthening moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I gather that senior British figures are talking in similar terms. There is a belief that \u201cthe U.K.\u2019s No. 1 option is for the conflict to be extended and thereby bleed Putin.\u201d Again and again, I hear such language. It helps explain, among other things, the lack of any diplomatic effort by the U.S. to secure a cease-fire.\u00a0 It also explains the readiness of President Joe Biden to call Putin a war criminal.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But, Ferguson noted, \u201cPutin has the power \u2014 unlike Saddam or Qaddafi \u2014 to threaten to use nuclear weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Already, \u201cUkraine has to make do with just arms supplies. And the reason for that, as we have seen, is the Biden administration\u2019s intense fear that Putin may escalate to nuclear war if U.S. support for Ukraine goes too far,\u201d Ferguson wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, a second question in the survey showed strong support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, the former Cold War enemy of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Fifty-five percent of respondents said Biden is not doing enough, when asked \u201cIs the United States doing too much or not doing enough to help Ukraine fight the Russian invasion? Or is the amount of U.S. support to Ukraine about right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just 15 percent said too much, and 33 percent said \u201cabout right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The stakes are high, in part, because Russian officials see the U.S. military support for Ukraine as an indirect war against Putin and Russia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA real hybrid war, total war, was declared on us,\u201d Russia\u2019s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov,\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-business-europe-nato-12ebc27af39ea5e993c1b55e6f50ab46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">said<\/a> as he described\u00a0his government\u2019s view of the military and economic support from the United States and Europe for the Ukraine government.
