How many people would have reacted the way he did to such an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=oscar%20joke%2C%20will%20smith%2C%20uncensored&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\">awful and ugly thing<\/a>? In front of the whole wide world, Rock\u2019s sucker-punched\/slapped by a man-baby who easily has 40 pounds on him. Rock\u2019s reaction? He doesn\u2019t give up even an inch of ground. Then he makes a joke: \u201cWill Smith just slapped the shit out of me!\u201d Then he addresses Smith\u2019s abusive heckling to shut Smith down. Then he makes another joke about this being \u201cthe greatest night in television history.\u201d Then he went on with the show.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Extraordinary, just extraordinary.<\/p>\n<p>Total pro.<\/p>\n<p>Bravo.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_20422487\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-1239574793.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>(ROBYN BECK\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Oscars should ask Chris Rock to host the show next year just so that he can get the biggest laugh in history walking out in a neck brace.<\/p>\n<p>However, none of that diminishes the fact that this was by far the ugliest moment in the Academy\u2019s already bruised history. And as the public processes what happened over the coming days, it will be remembered as something even uglier, mainly because Smith was allowed to get away with it.<\/p>\n<p>Rock was there to present the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. He made an anodyne joke about Smith\u2019s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and her short hair\u2026 \u00a0\u201cJada, can\u2019t wait for <em>GI Jane 2<\/em>,\u201d\u00a0was all he said.<\/p>\n<p>How is that an insult?<\/p>\n<p>At the time, all the hoopla around <em>GI Jane<\/em> (1997) was about how great Demi Moore looked in the starring role.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Apparently, Jada suffers from alopecia areata, which causes hair loss, but comparing your wife to 1997-era Demi Moore (or Demi Moore today for that matter) is far from an insult.<\/p>\n<p>At first, Smith laughed. But Jada laughed for only about a half-second and then rolled her eyes. Next thing we know, Smith stomps on the stage, hits Rock with a sucker slap, stomps off the stage, and starts yelling from his seat, \u201cKeep my wife\u2019s name out of your fucking mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>What a baby.<\/p>\n<p>What a bully.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what I think is really going on\u2026 Just one man\u2019s opinion\u2026<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Jada\u2019s been running her mouth for years about how she cuckolds Will Smith with extra-marital affairs by way of their \u201copen marriage.\u201d So Will Smith walked into Sunday\u2019s Oscars a man who\u2019s been serially humiliated by his own wife and who tries to put on a face about how he\u2019s okay with it. Smith\u2019s humiliation goes back even further to Jada\u2019s \u201cclose friendship\u201d with the late rapper Tupac Shakur.<\/p>\n<p>Put yourself in Smith\u2019s position\u2026<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Your screen image is that of a tough guy who can handle himself, who\u2019s never caught off guard or made to look like a beta male, and in real life, your wife is openly discussing the fact you\u2019re a cuckold.<\/p>\n<p>None of this is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/will-smith-november-cover-profile\">a secret<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Smith himself has appeared on the show, most notably for a frank discussion with Jada about a period of non-monogamy in their marriage. \u201cThe pursuit of truth is the only way to be happy in this lifetime,\u201d Smith told me. \u201cAnd we sort of came to the agreement that authenticity was the release from the shackles of fame and public scrutiny.\u201d When you tell the truth, the pair reasoned, you never have to fear being found out.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What\u2019s more, Smith is obviously uncomfortable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/will-smith-november-cover-profile\">with it<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cJada never believed in conventional marriage,[Smith said].\u2026 Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up. There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection,\u201d Smith told me. \u201cWe have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can\u2019t be a prison. And I don\u2019t suggest our road for anybody. I don\u2019t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we\u2019ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And this is not some one-time thing. In his own memoir, Smith <a href=\"https:\/\/hypebeast.com\/2021\/11\/will-smith-raging-jealousy-tupac-new-memoir\">discussed<\/a> his \u201craging jealousy\u201d about his wife\u2019s relationship with Tupac Shakur in the 90s\u2013the early days of Smith and Pinkett\u2019s courtship and marriage:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThough they were never intimate, their love for each other is legendary \u2013 they defined \u2018ride or die,\u2019\u201d he writes. \u201cIn the beginning of our relationship, my mind was tortured by their connection. He was PAC! It was an uncontrolled, rage-filled overreaction on Smith\u2019s part that had nothing to do with Rock and everything to do with a cuckold\u2019s need to reassert his manhood in front of a world that\u2019s either laughing at him or pitying him.<\/p>\n<p>Just my opinion. That\u2019s all this is\u2026<\/p>\n<p>People in open marriages pretend to be sophisticated but I see this as an example of how crippling and psychologically battering infidelity is. I would add that it would not surprise me if Will Smith now looks like an even weaker man in Jada\u2019s eyes. Why would she be impressed by her husband\u2019s lack of control and his targeting of Rock, who is a much smaller man? This wasn\u2019t chivalry.
