We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our bylaws, standards of conduct and California law.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-196 Component-p-0-2-187\"><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2022-oscars-show-9a69424884de11649b68a12a284353a1\">Smith stunned the Dolby Theatre crowd and viewers at home<\/a> when he took the stage during Rock\u2019s remarks after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Smith\u2019s wife. Rock said, \u201cJada, I love you. \u2018G.I. Jane 2,\u2019 can\u2019t wait to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-196 Component-p-0-2-187\">The joke touched a nerve. Pinkett Smith, whose head is shaved, has <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/chris-rock-jada-pinkett-smith-science-entertainment-health-625f0635f891989677ac9cd2fbe54e7b\">spoken publicly about her alopecia diagnosis<\/a>. Rock has also previously joked about her. Rock hosted the 2016 Oscars, when some were boycotting the ceremony over the #OscarsSoWhite group of nominees, including the Smiths. Said Rock: \u201cJada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna\u2019s panties. I wasn\u2019t invited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-196 Component-p-0-2-187\">Smith strode on stage and slapped Rock across the face. Back in his seat, Smith twice shouted for Rock to \u201cget my wife\u2019s name out your (expletive) mouth.\u201d His words echoed clearly throughout the Dolby, though ABC cut the audio for about 15 seconds. Within an hour, Smith won best actor. The Los Angeles Police Department said Sunday it was aware of a slapping incident at the Oscars but said the person involved had declined to file a police report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-196 Component-p-0-2-187\">Some academy members, like writer-producer Marshall Herskovitz, called for the academy to take disciplinary action against Smith.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-196 Component-p-0-2-187\">\u201cHe disgraced our entire community tonight,\u201d wrote Herskovitz on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-196 Component-p-0-2-187\">Whoopi Goldberg, a member of the Academy\u2019s board of governors, said Monday on \u201cThe View\u201d: \u201cWe\u2019re not going to take that Oscar from him.
