Version: 4.0.47--><div><\/div>\n<p>Dr. Cecilia Rouse, chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, said Monday that gas and energy prices are expected to rise further due to U.S. sanctions imposed on Russia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an important moment for democracy, but what we do know is that Putin\u2019s invasion of Ukraine will have impacts on both energy prices and food prices,\u201d Rouse said. \u201cSo, as the president has said, we can expect that while our sanctions are going to have their focus and most of their impact on the Russian economy, that we can expect we will see a bit of impact in the United States as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rouse warned of an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/biden-blames-putins-price-hike-record-high-inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">increase<\/a> in gas and oil prices and a potential impact on food due to a rise in fertilizer prices. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/05\/gas-prices-record-rate-russia-sanctions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: US Gas Prices Skyrocket At Record Rate Due To Russian Sanctions)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president is focused on doing what he can to make ensure that those increases are contained and doing what he can to ease them for the American people,\u201d she continued. \u201cHe\u2019s worked with our partners to increase an additional 60 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and he has other options on the table that he will be considering as they come up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rouse then noted that food shortages are not expected to occur in the U.S. due to it being a net exporter, but the administration is working closely with partners to \u201cminimize the impacts\u201d on nations that heavily rely on Ukraine and Russia for \u201cwheat, in particular, and other grains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/24\/joe-biden-warns-food-shortages-will-be-real-wheat-ukraine-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">warned<\/a> Thursday of food shortages, adding that he and the G7 \u201ctalked about urging all European countries and everyone else to end trade restrictions on sending, limitations on sending food abroad.\u201d Ukraine and Russia accounted for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/2\/17\/infographic-russia-ukraine-and-the-global-wheat-supply-interactive#:~:text=In%202019%2C%20Russia%20and%20Ukraine%20together%20exported%20more,for%20making%20bread%2C%20pasta%20and%20other%20food%20staples\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">combined 25.4%<\/a> of the world\u2019s wheat production in 2019, but Ukrainian farmers are now short on fertilizer, fuel and other goods.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/bureau-labor-statistics-inflation-consumer-price-index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recently soared<\/a> to its highest levels in four decades, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising 0.8% in February, bringing the key inflation indicator\u2019s year-over-year increase to 7.9%. Gas prices <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/07\/gasoline-prices-all-time-high-russia-white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exceeded<\/a> an average of $4.1 per gallon nationwide \u2014 the highest costs in U.S. history \u2014 in early March, shortly after Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The president had <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/02\/biden-buy-american-state-of-the-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">proposed<\/a> manufacturing things like cars and semiconductors in America rather than relying on foreign imports to combat inflationary costs.
