Ron DeSantis said Monday that he wears a \u201cbadge of honor\u201d over criticism from Hollywood stars who oppose his state\u2019s parental rights legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s even people in Hollywood that are opposed to providing protections for parents and enforcing parents\u2019 rights,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cThe one thing I\u2019ll say about that is if people who held up degenerates like Harvey Weinstein as exemplars and as heroes and all that\u2014if those are the types of people that are opposing us on parents\u2019 rights, I wear that like a badge of honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/28\/ron-desantis-signs-parental-rights-in-education-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signed<\/a> Florida\u2019s Parental Rights in Education bill into law Monday which prohibits discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in K-3 classrooms and requires school districts to notify parents of changes or services that revolve around their child\u2019s physical or mental health.<\/p>\n<p>Oscars hosts Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/27\/oscars-hosts-chant-gay-protest-florida-parental-rights-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chanted<\/a> the word \u201cgay\u201d in protest of the bill during Sunday\u2019s 2022 Academy Awards. DeSantis\u2019 spokeswoman Christina Pushaw <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/28\/ron-desantis-oscars-florida-parental-rights-in-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> \u201cCRINGE\u201d in response via Twitter and noted in a separate post that \u201cbeing attacked by these degenerates is a badge of honor.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/08\/dont-say-gay-legacy-media-activist-slogan-florida-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Legacy Media Adopts Slogan To Describe Florida Legislation, But There\u2019s A Big Problem With \u2018Don\u2019t Say Gay\u2019)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Critics and establishment media have dubbed the legislation the \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d bill, with claims that the bill prohibits the word \u201cgay\u201d from from being used in public schools. These claims sparked <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/07\/gay-florida-democrats-chant-protest-parental-rights-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Democrats<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/desantis-disney-florida-parental-rights-dont-say-gay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Disney<\/a>\u00a0and celebrities to repeatedly chant the word \u201cgay,\u201d though the bill allows for teachers to discuss sexual orientation and gender identity in fourth grade and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Disney CEO Bob Chapek <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/disney-ceo-bob-chapek-dont-say-gay-florida-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called<\/a> DeSantis in early March to express his disappointment in the bill, to which the governor agreed to meet with him and LGBTQ senior members of the company to address their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The governor accused a reporter of pushing a \u201cfalse narrative\u201d for referring to the legislation as the \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d bill at a March 4 press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can create a false narrative, you can stage a protest, you can do all of those things,\u201d DeSantis pushed back. \u201cBut you\u2019re not telling the truth about what\u2019s actually there\u2026there\u2019s this massive gulf between what [the bill] actually says with respect to these very young kids versus what some of these protests at the capitol are about.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Florida Gov.
