We are in the hands of the invaders,\u201d Boichenko said, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor\u2019s goal is now focused on saving lives among his city\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur most important mission today is to save every life \u2026 And there are hopes that we will succeed. For example, there are 26 buses that have to go to Mariupol to evacuate, but unfortunately, they haven\u2019t received permission to move,\u201d he said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/03\/28\/europe\/mariupol-mayor-ukraine-occupiers-intl\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> CNN on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd this game is played every day. A cynical game like, \u2018Yes, we are ready. You can drive there,\u2019 but in fact it does not work,\u201d he said. \u201cOur heroic drivers under the fire are trying to reach the places where Mariupol residents can be picked up, and they are waiting with the hope that they will have such an opportunity. But the Russian Federation has been playing with us since day one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The news comes after a report on Friday that approximately 300 people died in a Russian airstrike on a theater in Mariupol that was being used as a bomb shelter, according to a report by the city\u2019s government. The bombing occurred on March 16 despite large letters reportedly spelling out the word \u201cchildren\u201d on the ground outside, in Russian, so as to be visible from the air.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Ludmyla Denisova], the Ukrainian Parliament\u2019s human rights commissioner, said more than 1,300 people had been sheltering in the building,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-zelenskyy-kyiv-europe-moscow-b56759e5d40db18e94bef8e42db23e47\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a>\u00a0the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky addressed Italian lawmakers on Tuesday in a virtual address that highlighted the Russian destruction of Mariupol, describing it as being \u201clike Armageddon.\u201d The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/like-armageddon-zelensky-describes-destruction-of-mariupol-in-speech-to-italian-lawmakers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Zelensky\u2019s speech occurred shortly after a call earlier in the morning with Pope Francis. He began his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unionesarda.it\/en\/italy\/zelensky-at-montecitorio-imagine-genoa-destroyed-like-mariupol-117-children-killed-do-everything-for-peace-quot-opmor560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarks<\/a>\u00a0by referring to his conversation with the Pope, saying, \u201cI told him that our people have become the army, reminding him how much Ukraine has seen the evil that the enemy brings, how much devastation it leaves and how much bloodshed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Ukrainian president quickly turned to the deaths in his nation at the hands of Russia\u2019s armed forces.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere are now 117 children killed in Ukraine, this is the price of not stopping this war. And it\u2019s not the final number. Tens of thousands of families destroyed, millions of homes abandoned, dead and wounded.
