Hochul has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/08\/28\/hochul-breaks-with-new-lt-gov-over-calls-to-defund-the-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broken<\/a> from Benjamin on multiple issues, however, including the &#8220;defund the police&#8221; movement, which he made &#8220;a central component of his failed campaign for city comptroller.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While Benjamin told the <em>Post<\/em> that &#8220;neither he nor Hochul was under investigation,&#8221; prosecutors have issued subpoenas to the lieutenant governor&#8217;s campaign committee and to the state Senate, the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/27\/nyregion\/brian-benjamin-campaign-fraud-inquiry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Both Benjamin and Hochul are running this year for full four-year terms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Federal authorities questioned New York lieutenant governor Brian Benjamin (D.), a &#8220;defund the police&#8221; advocate, as part of an investigation into his role in funneling illegal campaign contributions.
