It has nothing to do with the recent airplane crash in China.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 crashed March 21 into a mountainside in Guangxi, killing all 132 passengers, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2022\/mar\/24\/china-plane-crash-cockpit-voice-recorder-analysed-for-clues-as-first-victims-found\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Guardian<\/a>. Two black boxes from the plane have been recovered and an investigation into the crash is ongoing, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/china-hong-kong-guangzhou-9936bd4fae0c1f3b48e0ffa475e1c141\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a> reported Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/pq5fv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">image<\/a> appears to show a plane nose-diving towards the ground with its tail missing. \u201c#MU5735,\u201d the post\u2019s caption claims. \u201cAs seen on close up footage of the crash, vertical stabilizer (tail) of aircraft had been detached,\u201d claiming the plane was falling at 31,000 feet per minute\u00a0at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n<p>The image is not a legitimate photo of the crash. A reverse image search revealed the screen grab actually comes from a digital flight simulation, as seen in a video shared Feb. 9 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gI5hP0FSJnM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a> titled \u201cSilkAir Flight 185 \u2013 Crash Animation.\u201d The clip originated from an episode of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IsMZZ6MTJD4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">documentary series<\/a> \u201cMayday\u201d that focused on the crash of SilkAir Flight 185 in December 1997.<\/p>\n<p>The plane was heading for Singapore from Jakarta, Indonesia, when the plane made a sudden steep descent, crashing into the Musi River, according to a 2000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2000\/12\/19\/news\/unexplained-disaster-insufficient-evidence-of-murder-3-years-after.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Times<\/a> article. Some officials have suggested that the pilot committed suicide by crashing the plane intentionally after it was discovered that voice and flight recorders were shut off moments before the incident occurred, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>In an emailed statement to Check Your Fact, Vanessa Marra, senior publicity manager at Cineflix Media Inc., said, \u201cCineflix confirms that the screengrab came from documentary series <em>Mayday: Air Disaster<\/em> Season 12 Episode 4 featuring SilkAir Flight 185.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Legitimate footage of the MU5735 crash can be seen in articles published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/china-eastern-airlines-plane-crashes-in-guangxi-province-11647852654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/2022\/03\/21\/chinese-airliner-crashes-133-people-board-state-media-says\/7117959001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USA Today<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-03-21\/china-plane-crash-update-132-people-on-boeing-737-feared-dead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bloomberg<\/a>, which shows the plane nose-diving towards the ground moments before impact. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/22\/fact-check-china-plane-crash-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show Footage From Inside A Plane Moments Before It Crashed In China?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time a simulation of a plane crash has been misattributed to the recent Chinese airplane incident.
