We are going to put a dagger through its heart, and it\u2019s not going to see the light of day,\u201d he said at a Sunday morning press conference, while flanked by war veterans and elected officials in front of a Veterans Administration hospital in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are the people who risked their lives for us, and the only thing we said in return is, \u2018You\u2019ll get good healthcare.\u2019 These facilities give good healthcare,\u201d he added. \u201cWe\u2019re not going to take them away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is going to take care of them? It\u2019s a dastardly thing,\u201d he said. \u201cThese folks risked their lives for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis VA system is a lot better than a lot of private hospitals where you have to pay so much copayments, this, that, and the other thing, where they make you wait, where they treat you shabbily, etc.,\u201d the senator explained. \u201cAnd if you close this hospital it\u2019s going to hurt every hospital, because who\u2019s going to take care of these folks if they go to the local hospitals which are already overburdened? That\u2019s one of the keys. They know what we are. They know what our health care is all about. We fought before, and I\u2019m going to Washington, DC, and we are going to fight again. We need those hospitals open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
