Roger Williams (R-TX), a former baseball star, told Breitbart News during an exclusive interview at the 2022 U.S. House Republican Issues Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Willams, a former college baseball star who was drafted into the MLB and now serves as the manager of the Republican baseball team, offered his perspective on \u201cwokeness\u201d infiltrating America\u2019s long-beloved pastimes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSports is a big thing in America. I have a baseball background and you know, I\u2019m upset when I see a lot of woke in anything, quite frankly. We\u2019ve got a rich history. We\u2019ve got some good. We\u2019ve got some bad, but we learn by both,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe don\u2019t need to destroy it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think a lot of these players who are playing today, if they had any other job in the private sector, they wouldn\u2019t be making anything what they\u2019re making. A lot of them don\u2019t understand the value of a dollar. A lot of them don\u2019t understand how they got there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think to the extent sports can get out of politics is the best thing,\u201d Williams added, as Americans have long viewed sports as an escape \u2014 something wokeness has completely destroyed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cPeople want to go to a baseball game or hockey game, football game, and they want to enjoy the game and root for their team. They don\u2019t want politics involved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>While Williams acknowledged that we \u201ccan\u2019t keep players from making statements,\u201d he suggested that some of what we have seen recently crosses the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut at the same time, I think there\u2019s a point in time, you do not kneel for the national anthem. I don\u2019t think you wear Black Lives Matter across you shirt. That sends a political statement that fans don\u2019t want to jack with, quite frankly,\u201d the Republican said.<\/p>\n<p>Players need to play, and let the people of America decide politically where they want to go,\u201d Williams said. \u201cSo I\u2019m disappointed in some of the things I see on the athletic fields and disappointed in some of the things players say, but there\u2019s also a lot of players who get it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of players serve. A lot of players do great things more than not, ok? But we don\u2019t need to be having political statements on the court. We don\u2019t need the political statement on the pitcher\u2019s mound. We don\u2019t need political statements on our jerseys . Let\u2019s play for our country, let\u2019s play for our fans, let\u2019s play for our mom and dad, let\u2019s play for our school,\u201d he said, calling for the days of \u201cnormality\u201d to make a comeback.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PONTE VEDRA, Florida \u2014 Americans are sick of the politicization of sports, Rep.
