Two men allegedly pocketed $1.1 million from investors hoping to strike it rich in the NFT crypto gold rush, only to disappear in the money.<\/p>\n<p>The Verge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/3\/24\/22995107\/us-arrest-charges-crypto-nft-rug-pull-frosties-ethan-nguyen-andre-llacuna\">reports<\/a>\u00a0that two men have been arrested and charged with fraud and money laundering in relation to a cryptocurrency \u201crug pull\u201d scam. Ethan Nguyen and Andre Llacuna were alleged to have earned approximately $1.1 million selling non-fungible tokens (NFTs) based on cartoon characters named \u201cFrosties.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_16268498\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/04\/NFT-art-gallery.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">NFT art gallery<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_20377550\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/03\/Frosties-NFT.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-20377550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Frosties-NFT-1024x576-1.jpg\" alt=\"Frosties NFT\" width=\"990\" height=\"557\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Frosties NFT<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>After the two men sold a significant number of the NFTs, they closed the project and transferred its fund to various cryptocurrency wallets, leaving the NFT owners with none of the features or rewards they were promised. This is commonly referred to in the crypto space as a \u201crug pull\u201d scam.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>A recently filed criminal complaint states that the\u00a0Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) began investigating the Frosties NFT project in January after receiving complaints related to the scam. Frosties gained a lot of attention in the NFTs space and sold out within an hour of its public launch.<\/p>\n<p>However, the project was abandoned by the creators immediately, abandoning all promises of delivering 3D versions of the Frosties avatars, a Frosties video game, and various other benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint included a number of pieces of evidence including an apparent apology and confession from Nguyen to the moderators of the Frosties Discord server.<\/p>\n<p>The apology reads: \u201cI know this is shocking, but this project is coming to an end. I never intended to keep the project going, and I don\u2019t have a plan for anything in the future.\u201d The message adds that Nguyen sent the server moderator some Ethereum \u201cfor your troubles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Frosties creators still seemed to have no issues with releasing a follow-up NFT series called \u201cEmbers\u201d that was intended to launch in March.
