Indeed, slavery had long been outlawed in Britain when the Queen, aged 95, was born, and her father, grandfather, and even great-grandfather, who would today be 136, 156, and 180-years-old, respectively, never lived at a time where slavery was lawful in the British Empire either.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Regardless, Prince William partially\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbc.co.uk\/news\/prince-william-kate-jamaica-slavery\/\">caved<\/a>\u00a0to the demands of the reparations mob and expressed \u201cprofound sorrow\u201d over the Transatlantic Slave Trade and said it \u201cshould never have happened\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jamaicans Protest, Demand Reparations During Royal Visit from Prince William and Kate Middleton<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dx9Nseu2Nc\">https:\/\/t.co\/dx9Nseu2Nc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1506601664471572492?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 23, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Prime Minister Holness did not give a timeline for his plans to remove the British monarchy, but has previously insisted that his party will be putting forward a bill to replace the Queen with \u201ca non-executive president as head of state\u201d \u2014 an option which would leave his own powers unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>The Jamaican prime minister had vowed in his 2016 election campaign to turn Jamaica into a republic, but he may require a nationwide referendum to ratify any changes to the Jamaican constitution concerning the status of the monarchy,\u00a0<em>The Telegraph<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/royal-family\/2022\/03\/23\/jamaica-tells-prince-william-kate-want-sever-ties-royal-family\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Holness has not indicated that Jamaica will cease accepting British foreign aid after cutting ties with the British monarch.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The island nation was given \u00a353 million in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jamaicaobserver.com\/news\/jamaica-eligible-for-%C2%A353m-in-british-aid_97293\">infrastructural aid<\/a> in 2017 alone, and the\u00a0Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has provided Jamaica with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/devtracker.fcdo.gov.uk\/countries\/JM\/\">over \u00a360 million<\/a> ($79 million) in debt relief since 1998.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">When will Communist China begin paying reparations for the Chinese coronavirus? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1VwsSgcfrM\">https:\/\/t.co\/1VwsSgcfrM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1413464284638584835?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 9, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The motivation for Jamaica moving away from the British monarchy may have something to do with the fact that Jamaica, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/cities\/2018\/jul\/31\/china-in-africa-win-win-development-or-a-new-colonialism\">many<\/a> Third World nations, has recently been cosying up to Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019,\u00a0Jamaica <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.yidaiyilu.gov.cn\/qwyw\/rdxw\/85836.htm\">joined<\/a> China\u2019s Belt and Road initiative, which establishes trade routes between China and almost 70 other nations, with China <a href=\"https:\/\/www.invesco.com\/ch\/de\/invesco-belt-and-road-debt-fund.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwrfCRBhAXEiwAnkmKmSIjgNK0RGALGlXF9LXrm1KTeqM-fEJfEECngz3lw_dnRQXVeJfSABoCGiQQAvD_BwE\">fronting<\/a>\u00a0bills to improve nations\u2019 infrastructure with the goal of increasing the communist regime\u2019s soft power across the world.<\/p>\n<p>Belt and Road is somewhat of a poisoned chalice, however, as developing nations like Jamaica are left in hundreds of millions of dollars worth of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/china-power-belt-and-road-caribbean-jamaica-1.5374967\">debt<\/a> to Beijing in what some have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymaverick.co.za\/article\/2018-02-21-iss-today-lessons-from-sri-lanka-on-chinas-debt-trap-diplomacy\/\">branded<\/a>\u00a0\u201cdebt-trap diplomacy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, China has built essential services in Jamaica, including a children\u2019s hospital in Montego Bay, which are presented as gifts, but in reality such \u201cgifts\u201d come with strings attached, some invisible \u2014 such as an expectation that beneficiaries support Chinese foreign policy in international organisations like the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>This was seen in 2020 when <a href=\"https:\/\/thediplomat.com\/2020\/10\/which-countries-support-china-on-hong-kongs-national-security-law\/\">54 nations<\/a> backed China\u2019s likely illegal Hong Kong crackdown, many of them \u2014 including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silkroadbriefing.com\/news\/2019\/05\/24\/chinas-belt-road-caribbean-west-indies\/\">Caribbean nations<\/a> Antigua &#038; Barbuda, Grenada, and Cuba \u2014 being part of Belt and Road.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Bowing to Beijing?
