Edinburg (TX) police found Duron sleeping in a vehicle Tuesday morning and started a search after an officer \u201csmelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_305525\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-305525\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-305525\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emmanuel Duron was arrested in 2020 after assaulting a Texas referee and was banned from playing high school sports \/ via Twitter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Upon inspection, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valleycentral.com\/news\/local-news\/former-edinburg-athlete-accused-of-tackling-referee-found-asleep-in-car-with-cocaine\/?fbclid=IwAR1xMacfsQLIPB8giVS7m5ihcOlFKGenSW5ezmF1isLIBDPSJVQee02F-Xs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to KVEO<\/a>, police found plastic bags containing six grams of cocaine which resulted in a felony \u201cmanufacture or delivery of a controlled substance\u201d charge that comes with a $50k bond.<\/p>\n<p>How quickly life comes at you.<\/p>\n<p>One minute you\u2019re leveling a ref, the next minute you\u2019re facing a felony cocaine charge.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"und\" dir=\"ltr\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2vdrVVGQEJ\">pic.twitter.com\/2vdrVVGQEJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Santiago Pe\u00f1a III (@_7santiago) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_7santiago\/status\/1334683075603795969?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 4, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTo Mr. Fred Garcia, I would like to apologize to you personally,\u201d Duron said on a YouTube video weeks after destroying the ref. \u201cI hope you\u2019re doing well. I am extremely sorry to my actions towards you, and I hope one day you can accept my apology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Look, it\u2019s safe to say many people figured Mr. Duron would have trouble buckling down and hitting the books after his high school career ended. Did those same people think he\u2019d end up a drug mule so soon?
