Scott walked away with a 4 percent stock interest in Amazon after her divorce from Bezos. Scott\u2019s donation is the largest in Planned Parenthood\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The multimillion-dollar donation comes as legal scholars\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&#038;rct=j&#038;q=&#038;esrc=s&#038;source=web&#038;cd=&#038;ved=2ahUKEwiO_8fQ39_2AhUim2oFHQmpBPEQFnoECA8QAQ&#038;url=https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/news\/daily-comment\/the-supreme-court-looks-ready-to-overturn-roe&#038;usg=AOvVaw3FE9Ctr4P2fKrLIRnp8v3E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anticipate<\/a>\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0may be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court this term.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In their statement recognizing Scott\u2019s donation, Planned Parenthood said 2021 \u201c was the worst year for abortion rights since\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0was decided in 1973.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While conservative states like Texas and Mississippi have recently passed laws restricting access to abortions, the liberal state of California just passed a law making abortion\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/23\/gavin-newsom-signs-law-to-make-abortions-free-in-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free<\/a>\u00a0for those who want one.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood president and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/planned-parenthood-announces-275-million-historic-donation-from-mackenzie-scott-to-support-public-health-equity-across-the-country\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0Scott\u2019s donation will help black women, who \u201cwill be most hurt by the loss of abortion access in the South and Midwest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding will support our efforts to advance health equity by eliminating racial and structural barriers for our patients in the communities where Planned Parenthood works,\u201d Johnson\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/planned-parenthood-announces-275-million-historic-donation-from-mackenzie-scott-to-support-public-health-equity-across-the-country\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said,<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/planned-parenthood-announces-275-million-historic-donation-from-mackenzie-scott-to-support-public-health-equity-across-the-country\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adding:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>By starting with the Black health experience in partnership with local communities, we see this as an opportunity to not only improve health outcomes for Black patients, but to transform how all patients, especially those of color and those in rural and low income communities, experience our health care, education, and organizing efforts.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Scott announced she had donated over $3.8 billion to 465 different non-profit organizations, including Planned Parenthood, since last June. \u201cOur team\u2019s focus over these last nine months has included some new areas, but as always our aim has been to support the needs of underrepresented people from groups of all kinds,\u201d Scott wrote in a blog\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/mackenzie-scott.medium.com\/helping-any-of-us-can-help-us-all-f4c7487818d9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><em>Forbes<\/em> magazine\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/mackenzie-scott\/?sh=7f65a951243d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that Scott was worth about $49 million as of Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, gave a record-breaking $275 million donation to abortion provider Planned Parenthood.
