Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) asked Facebook\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal on Thursday to preserve all internal records related to the companies\u2019 suppression of news coverage of Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop in 2020, according to copies of the congressional preservation letters obtained by the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The congressman is asking <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/20220323_Rep-Issa-letter_Mark-Zuckerberg_document-preservation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zuckerberg<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/20220323_Rep-Issa-letter_Parag-Agrawal_document-preservation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agrawal<\/a>, Facebook communications director <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/20220323_Rep-Issa-letter_Andy-Stone_document-preservation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Stone<\/a>, and former Twitter CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/20220323_Rep-Issa-letter_Jack-Dorsey_document-preservation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Dorsey<\/a> to &#8220;Immediately initiate document preservation for all materials relating to questions, inquiry, conversation, strategy, and response to the media reporting of the Hunter Biden laptop and\/or its contents that first appeared in the <em>New York Post<\/em> on October 14, 2020,&#8221; and to notify employees, consultants, and subcontractors who might have access to relevant materials.<\/p>\n<p>Issa said his office is investigating efforts by social media outlets and Democratic operatives to stifle the <em>New York Post<\/em> bombshell story about Hunter Biden\u2019s corrupt foreign business dealings, which was based on emails found on Hunter\u2019s abandoned laptop.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the scandal that Big Tech and the Democrat industrial complex wish would go away,&#8221; Issa told the <em>Free Beacon<\/em>. &#8220;They know what they did, and of course they think they\u2019ve gotten away with it. That\u2019s why it\u2019s critical that we not squander the opportunity for accountability.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Issa also sent preservation requests to top Biden 2020 campaign aides\u2014including now-White House press secretary Jen Psaki and chief of staff Ron Klain\u2014as well as a group of Biden-supporting former U.S. intelligence officials who claimed the laptop appeared to be part of a &#8220;Russian information operation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The preservation requests don\u2019t have the legal power of a congressional subpoena, but companies could take a political risk if they refuse to comply\u2014particularly if Republicans gain the House majority next year, giving them control of investigative committees and subpoena authority.<\/p>\n<p>Although there was no evidence in 2020 that the <em>Post<\/em>\u2019s reporting was inaccurate\u2014and even Hunter Biden didn\u2019t deny that the emails were real\u2014Democrats decried the story as Russian &#8220;misinformation,&#8221; and Facebook and Twitter took unprecedented steps to prevent users from viewing or sharing it weeks before the election.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook announced that it would be &#8220;reducing [the story\u2019s] distribution on our platform&#8221; and changed its algorithm to make posts about the article less visible. Twitter locked the <em>Post<\/em>\u2019s account and barred users from sharing the link, claiming it was &#8220;potentially harmful.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Facebook declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous other news outlets have since corroborated the <em>Post<\/em>\u2019s reporting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
