In a virtual speech to Italian lawmakers on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unionesarda.it\/en\/italy\/zelensky-at-montecitorio-imagine-genoa-destroyed-like-mariupol-117-children-killed-do-everything-for-peace-quot-opmor560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compared<\/a> Mariupol to the Italian city of Genoa to make the issue more vivid for his audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt had half a million inhabitants; it\u2019s like Genoa, imagine Genoa completely destroyed. Imagine your Genoa from which people escape on foot or by car in search of a safer place. O Kyiv, as important to us as Rome is to you. It must live in peace, a continuous, eternal peace, as Rome and any city in our world must have. But in Kyiv every day sirens are heard and bombs and missiles fall, while in the surroundings there are Russian troops who torture, rape, destroy, take away our goods and our children. Things that last time in Europe were done by the Nazis. The Russian army has also managed to undermine the sea near our ports: this is also a danger for neighboring countries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Zelensky\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/europe\/live-news\/ukraine-russia-putin-news-03-22-22\/h_37308b5b1ca6c17c488449cd04ce240a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a>\u00a0Russia \u201cwill ruin more lives, more families, and the full-scale war will continue. Unfortunately, Russian missiles artillery is not stopping the bombing of our cities, all of the some of them have been almost destroyed completely,\u201d adding that Mariupol is \u201clike Armageddon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The airstrike is one of the events that led the the Pentagon to announce that it believes Russia\u2019s military is guilty of war crimes in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, I can announce that, based on information currently available, the U.S. government assesses that members of Russia\u2019s forces have committed war crimes in Ukraine,\u201d Secratary of State Antony Blinken said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/war-crimes-by-russias-forces-in-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> on Wednesday. He added, \u201cMany of the sites Russia\u2019s forces have hit have been clearly identifiable as in-use by civilians.\u00a0 This includes the Mariupol maternity hospital, as the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights expressly noted in a March 11 report.\u00a0 It also includes a strike that hit a Mariupol theater, clearly marked with the word \u2018\u0434\u0435\u0442\u0438\u2019 \u2014 Russian for \u2018children\u2019 \u2014 in huge letters visible from the sky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/10-million-civilians-have-fled-war-in-ukraine-top-un-official-says\">reported<\/a>\u00a0on Monday that more than 10 million people, approximately one-fourth of Ukraine\u2019s population, have been displaced within the country or left as refugees. The number includes about 3.3 million people who have left the nation since the start of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong the responsibilities of those who wage war, everywhere in the world, is the suffering inflicted on civilians who are forced to flee their homes. The war in Ukraine is so devastating that 10 million have fled \u2014 either displaced inside the country, or as refugees abroad,\u201d said Filippo Grandi, the U.N.
