Elaine Luria (D-VA),\u00a0continue to be put in the spotlight where their contradictions are coming back to haunt them.<\/p>\n<p>Luria, in the past, has contradicted herself in many areas, such as accepting corporate PAC money and school choice policies. More recently, she called implementing a\u00a0stock trading ban for members\u00a0of Congress \u201cbullshit,\u201d flip-flopped on wanting to pay people a living wage by neglecting members of her own staff, and comparing a measure to remove the critical race theory (CRT) indoctrination scheme schools as trying to erase history.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>As a candidate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JfgtWrDTahA\">in 2018<\/a>, Luria said in an ad that she would listen to her constituents, \u201cnot corporate donors and not party leaders,\u201d if elected to Congress. However, at the beginning of 2021, Luria was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/01\/democrat-elaine-luria-pays-off-campaign-debt-using-corporate-pac-donations-she-rejected\/\">hit<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/2021\/02\/01\/elaine-luria-pays-off-campaign-debt-using-corporate-pac-money-she-said-shed-reject\/\"><em>Roll Call<\/em><\/a> for \u201cpay[ing] off campaign debt using corporate PAC money she said she\u2019d reject. In fact, the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilotonline.com\/government\/nation\/vp-nw-luria-pac-promise-20210205-i2rwsx7qdbbq5fzn4rk6oaa4fu-story.html\">Virginia Pilot<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>also wrote: \u201cIn 2018, Luria said she wouldn\u2019t accept corporate PAC money. But she just took in more than $30,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19879786\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/02\/Elaine-Luria-2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rep. (Photo by Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>But, it wasn\u2019t until last month when the left-leaning <em>Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/14\/report-democrat-rep-elaine-luria-brings-in-nearly-200k-from-corporate-pacs-after-dropping-pledge\/\">found<\/a> that she took\u00a0nearly $200,000 from corporate PACs after \u201cabandoning a pledge not to accept money from corporations at the end of 2020.\u201d The\u00a0<em>Post<\/em> <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/02\/12\/luria-corporate-pacs-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">pointed out<\/a> that it is not \u201cunusual\u201d for candidates, especially incumbents, to take\u00a0corporate PAC money when running in tough elections, but that it is \u201cunusual\u201d that she should take\u00a0corporate money after previously swearing it off and breaking herself imposed pledge before.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Furthermore, in 2018, Luria \u201crailed against school choice on the campaign trail\u201d and took the stance of many other\u00a0Democrats to oppose school choice. Still, she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/elaine-luria-rails-against-school-choice-she-once-was-president-of-a-private-school\/\">reportedly<\/a> sent her daughter to a private school in Norfolk, Virginia, that can cost more than $12,000 a year.<\/p>\n<p>However, in\u00a0January, an\u00a0ethics watchdog\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/14\/ethics-watchdog-calls-for-probe-into-house-democrat-elaine-luria-for-not-disclosing-corporate-ties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">filed<\/a> a complaint with the\u00a0Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) asking for a probe into the congresswoman after a report <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/elaine-luria-rails-against-school-choice-she-once-was-president-of-a-private-school\/\">surfaced<\/a> stating she\u00a0failed to disclose past corporate positions on her Financial Disclosure Statements.\u00a0The complaint noted that\u00a0Luria\u00a0served as the President (and was an officer and director) of Tidewater Montessori High School, Inc. from 2015 to 2019. However, she did not disclose this corporate position on her financial disclosure statements.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in 2019, Luria voted for the\u00a0Insider Trading Prohibition Act to make it\u00a0unlawful for anyone to trade while aware of having material or\u00a0non-public information and making it illegal to\u00a0pass along that information to others. After voting on the bill, she <a href=\"https:\/\/luria.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congresswoman-elaine-luria-votes-ban-insider-trading\">wrote<\/a> in a press release that \u201cBanning insider trading is critical to ensuring a fair economy that works.\u201d But, only two years later, Luria was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/u-s-lawmakers-traded-an-estimated-355-million-of-stock-last-year-these-were-the-biggest-buyers-and-sellers-11643639354\">named<\/a> one\u00a0\u201cof the biggest traders on Capitol Hill\u201d and has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/readsludge.com\/2021\/10\/15\/members-of-congress-own-millions-in-facebook-stock-while-weighing-new-tech-laws\/\">routinely<\/a>\u00a0invested in stocks of companies she regulates.<\/p>\n<p>When she was asked about her stance on banning members of Congress from trading stock after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) publicly backed the idea, she called it \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/10\/whole-concept-is-bullsht-democrats-axne-luria-fight-congressional-stock-trading-ban\/\">bullshit<\/a>.\u201d She shot back at the reporter, questioning, \u201cWhy would you assume that members of Congress are going to be inherently bad or corrupt.\u201d Shortly after her comments, a \u201cformer adviser\u201d called the\u00a0congresswoman\u2019s political judgment \u201ctone-deaf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the congresswoman appears to have gone back and forth on the federal minimum wage throughout the years. Last year, Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/03\/04\/democrat-elaine-luria-flip-flops-on-federal-minimum-wage\/\">reported<\/a> that\u00a0Luria has flip-flopped on the issue multiple times.\u00a0As a candidate, Luria opposed changing the federal\u00a0minimum wage, saying it \u201ccould cause risk\u201d to small businesses, but favored a localized minimum wage hike.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_12024902\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/AP_19267801119611.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12024902\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/AP_19267801119611.jpg\" alt=\"Rep. Scott Applewhite)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>But, like everything else,\u00a0despite her campaign position, in 2019, she was\u00a0an <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/582\/cosponsors?searchResultViewType=expanded&#038;pageSort=alpha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">original<\/a> co-sponsor to a bill that would\u00a0raise the minimum wage from\u00a0$7.25 to $15 nationwide,\u00a0regardless of the local cost of living. She was also an original\u00a0co-sponsor for the same bill\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/603\/cosponsors?q=%22search%22:%5B%22Raise+the+Wage+Act%22%5D&#038;r=2&#038;s=4&#038;searchResultViewType=expanded&#038;pageSort=alphaByState\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">again<\/a>\u00a0in 2021. However, in 2019, she did not sign onto another bill that would raise the minimum wage to\u00a0$15 nationwide, saying\u00a0the bill \u201cwould allow the entire country to meet and exceed a $15 minimum wage, but at different times depending on how quickly an area can absorb the wage increase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, while\u00a0Luria, as a\u00a0candidate, once said that\u00a0\u201cEveryone deserves a living wage,\u201d it was revealed that the congresswoman did not think of that for her own staff. A\u00a0Washington Free Beacon <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/elaine-luria-wants-a-living-wage-for-all-except-her-own-staff\/\">report<\/a>\u00a0revealed that\u00a0at least two of her taxpayer-funded congressional staffers earned less than a living wage in\u00a0Virginia. It was reported that, while the living wage in\u00a0Virginia is\u00a0a yearly salary of $34,552, two of her staffer made below that,\u00a0$33,588 and\u00a0$31,769.<\/p>\n<p>More recently,\u00a0Luria\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/15\/watch-democrat-elaine-luria-says-k-12-critical-race-theory-ban-erases-history\/\">criticized<\/a> Virginia\u2019s newly elected Republican\u00a0Gov. Glenn Youngkin and called measures he\u2019s put forth to\u00a0remove the CRT indoctrination scheme schools as trying to erase history. She said,\u00a0\u201cThe Governor said we need to learn about all history. We need to learn about all history, but he\u2019s really tried to erase certain parts of Virginia history from the curriculum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, as Breitbart News\u2019s Breccan Thies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/15\/watch-democrat-elaine-luria-says-k-12-critical-race-theory-ban-erases-history\/\">wrote<\/a>, CRT is \u201cnot based in history, but rather a revisionist ideology that injects race-based decision-making into every aspect of history and modern life.\u201d He noted that the \u201cclearest examples\u201d of CRT are the \u201cfake history on display in the <em>New York Times<\/em>\u00a0\u20181619 Project\u2019 within which the founding of the United States was based in the maintenance of the institution of slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Luria, who represents one of the more\u00a0evenly split districts in Virginia \u2014 which is <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Virginia%27s_2nd_Congressional_District_election,_2022\">rated<\/a> as a toss-up from three different rating outlets \u2014 is one of the top targets for Republicans, their\u00a0congressional campaign arm, and outside GOP-aligned groups. Luria is expected not to see any major challengers in the June 21 primary but could see potential challengers in November from the Republican field.<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
