Any new analysis, however, must comply with our equal protection jurisprudence,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Vox <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2022\/3\/23\/22993107\/supreme-court-wisconsin-race-gerrymander-voting-rights-act-legislature-elections-commission\">reported<\/a> that the high court\u00a0used a process known as \u201csummary reversal\u201d to toss the maps, \u201cmeaning that the Court tossed out the Wisconsin Supreme Court\u2019s decision completely without receiving full briefing or hearing oral arguments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan dissented from the majority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIn an emergency posture, the Court summarily overturns a Wisconsin Supreme Court decision resolving a conflict over the State\u2019s redistricting, a decision rendered after a 5-month process involving all interested stakeholders,\u201d Sotomayor wrote, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/599407-supreme-court-turns-away-wisconsin-gop-challenge-to-congressional\">according<\/a> to The Hill. \u201cDespite the fact that summary reversals are generally reserved for decisions in violation of settled law, the Court today faults the State Supreme Court for its failure to comply with an obligation that, under existing precedent, is hazy at best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a second unsigned ruling, \u201cthe court rejected a challenge from five Republican congressmen who objected to the congressional map adopted by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which had also been prepared by Mr. Evers, a Democrat,\u201d The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/23\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-wisconsin-redistricting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats and their allies in the media fumed over the news, claiming it was an attack on \u201cvoting rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s Supreme Court action in Wisconsin is simply wrong and is grounded in an unprecedented process and a failure to adhere to precedent,\u201d former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder posted to social media. \u201cThe Court continues to put its legitimacy at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today\u2019s Supreme Court action in Wisconsin is simply wrong and is grounded in an unprecedented process and a failure to adhere to precedent.
