A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/planned-parenthood-announces-275-million-historic-donation-from-mackenzie-scott-to-support-public-health-equity-across-the-country\"><span>statement<\/span><\/a><span> from Planned Parenthood Federation of America thanked Scott for her donation, which benefits the abortion giant\u2019s national offices and 21 of its affiliates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are incredibly grateful for Ms. Scott\u2019s extraordinary philanthropic investment in Planned Parenthood, as a critical part of the public health infrastructure,\u201d Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson said. \u201cThere is no question that we are living through a crisis for sexual and reproductive health and rights in this country. As we face the most serious attacks on access to reproductive health care that we\u2019ve seen in a generation, we know this moment requires us to be innovative and to double down on our efforts to ensure everyone has equitable access to health care, including abortion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Johnson specified that the funding will help to eliminate \u201cracial and structural barriers\u201d \u2014 specifically for black women, who would be the most \u201churt\u201d by legislation heightening restrictions on abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mackenzie-scott.medium.com\/helping-any-of-us-can-help-us-all-f4c7487818d9\"><span>Medium<\/span><\/a><span> post explaining her donation to Planned Parenthood and dozens of other organizations, Scott emphasized \u201cthe cause of equity\u201d as a motivation for her giving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s easy to think of different groups struggling within the same systems as not only separate, but also opposing,\u201d she wrote. \u201cYet when we help one group, we often help them all\u2026 The dividends of changes in attitude each time disparate groups help each other are harder to trace. But the trend line is clear. Communities with a habit of removing obstacles for different subsets of people tend to get better for everyone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Planned Parenthood <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/5-disturbing-insights-from-planned-parenthoods-annual-report\"><span>completed<\/span><\/a><span> 354,871 \u201cabortion procedures\u201d in 2020, according to the organization\u2019s 2020 annual report. The figure amounts to 972 abortions per day and 41 abortions per hour across the United States. Planned Parenthood, based on those statistics, carries out an abortion every ninety seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Though America\u2019s 862,000 annual abortions represent the leading cause of death in the United States, Planned Parenthood\u2019s abortions alone would represent the third-leading cause of death, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/fastats\/leading-causes-of-death.htm\"><span>followed<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0by COVID-19, accidental deaths, respiratory disease, stroke, and Alzheimer\u2019s disease as of 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Planned Parenthood also reported that taxpayer dollars accounted for $618.1 million of Planned Parenthood\u2019s $1.641 billion in revenues \u2014 in other words, federal funds accounted for nearly 38% of the organization\u2019s income.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Scott\u2019s donation occurs as the Supreme Court considers arguments for <\/span><i><span>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/span><\/i><span>, which pertains to a Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks\u2019 gestation. As the Justices prepare to release their verdict, a growing number of lawmakers across the country are filing bills to abolish abortion rather than regulating it through heartbeat acts and cutoffs at various gestational ages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Texas State Rep.
