Abramowitz.<\/p>\n<p>After looking at national exit polls and examining Latino support for Democratic candidates between 1984 and 2020, Abramowitz concluded there was no discernible shift in the group\u2019s partisan leanings. Instead, he argued that Latino voters are more inclined to favor a presidential incumbent than other demographics. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/21\/gop-black-candidates-voters-herschel-walker-2022-midterms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: GOP Steps Up Recruitment Efforts For Black Candidates, Voters)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past 10 presidential elections, Democratic incumbents have won a substantially larger share of the vote among Latinos than non-incumbent Democrats have,\u201d Abramowitz wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The exit polls showed that Latino support for Democrats has never been steady, with the margin of victory ranging from 9 points against former President George W. Bush in 2004 to 51 points against Bob Dole in 1966, the political scientist wrote. President Joe Biden\u2019s 33 point lead with Latinos over Trump falls in the middle of that range.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be wrong to attribute the Hispanic vote for Trump in Texas to incumbency,\u201d Texas Public Policy Foundation Distinguished Fellow Sherry Sylvester, who leads the foundation\u2019s campaign to \u201cKeep Texas Texan,\u201d told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason Hispanics voted for Trump in Texas was because of his position on cultural issues, his position on oil and gas issues and his position on taxes and business issues,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most prominent areas in which Democrats have seen diminishing returns among Latinos is South Texas, prompting the Republican National Committee to launch a multimillion-dollar outreach effort across the region, San Antonio Current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacurrent.com\/news\/after-2020-republicans-want-to-swing-more-latino-voters-in-south-texas-its-not-as-easy-as-it-looks-28173035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7397274\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7397274\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Supporters of President Donald Trump protest outside the Clark County Election Department on November 7, 2020 in North Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Ethan Miller\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/hispanic-voters-now-evenly-split-between-parties-wsj-poll-finds-11638972769\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">released<\/a> a poll in December that found Hispanic voters are now evenly split between both parties, while a February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrcc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/NRCC-Hispanic-Battleground-Memo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">survey<\/a> from the National Republican Congressional Committee\u2019s Battleground Survey Project showed the GOP had cut the Democratic advantage by nearly 20 percent in battleground districts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019re seeing is really a continuation of what we\u2019ve been seeing for so many years now,\u201d Israel Ortega, national spokesperson for free-market Hispanic advocacy group The LIBRE Initiative, told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticularly on economic issues, Latinos are beginning to be a lot more receptive to just the idea of pro-growth, pro-economic opportunity messages that conservatives and Republicans are driving,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>While Abramowitz acknowledged it is yet to be seen if Democrats have a long-term <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/07\/florida-democrats-hispanics-americano-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">problem<\/a> with Latinos, he argued that, if voting patterns act as they\u2019ve done in the past, Biden will likely increase his share of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/04\/latino-vote-virginia-new-jersey-glenn-youngkin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Latino vote<\/a> in the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
