The deal included paying almost $900 million in fines and accepting five years of monitored probation. ZTE was accused of some fishy activities during those five years, but on Tuesday a U.S. District Court judge <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/03\/23\/u-s-judge-ends-probation-chinas-zte-telecom-giant\/\"><span>decided<\/span><\/a><span> not to treat a pending case of visa fraud as a probation violation, clearing the way for ZTE\u2019s probation to end on schedule on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_8703502\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2018\/05\/ZTE-outside-people-walking-getty.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>The ZTE logo is seen on an office building in Shanghai on May 3, 2018. (JOHANNES EISELE\/AFP\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The <\/span><i><span>Global Times<\/span><\/i> <span>could scarcely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202203\/1256649.shtml\">believe<\/a> the U.S. would allow its own court system to be used as a weapon against government policies. Since undermining U.S. and European sanctions as an instrument of international relations is a top item on the agenda of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/16\/us-blacklists-34-chinese-entities-over-human-rights-abuses-brain-control-weapons.html\"><span>genocidal, slave-taking<\/span><\/a><span> Chinese regime, the state newspaper urged other Chinese companies to follow ZTE\u2019s lead as quickly as possible:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>While hailing the verdict as a piece of good news and a helpful result for the tech giant by abating external auditing, analysts also said that the lawsuit offers a lesson for domestic tech companies like Huawei, inspiring them on the need to play hardball amid a US crackdown and seek technological independence from US containment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Experts also noted ZTE\u2019s handling of the crisis reminds people of Chinese tech companies\u2019 resilience and abilities to resist crackdown, as their business was not weighed down by US sanctions, but instead developed even better.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn 2017, many Chinese were shocked when they learned about the incident, an earthquake in bilateral ties, and feared that more Chinese tech companies would be slaughtered soon by the US, but it did not happen and Chinese people\u2019s perception of the US and bilateral ties has turned more confident in the past years,\u201d L\u00fc Xiang, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_17575186\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/08\/wi\/ap\/19\/canada-china-meng-meng-wanzhou-chief-financial-officer-of-huawei-leaves-attend-is-expected-be-final.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17575186 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/canada-china-meng-meng-wanzhou-chief-financial-officer-of-huawei-leaves-attend-is-expected-be-final-1024x704-1.jpg\" alt=\"The Associated Press\" width=\"1024\" height=\"704\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei, leaves home to attend what is expected to be the final day of her extradition hearing at B.C. (Darryl Dyck\/The Canadian Press via AP)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>The <\/span><i><span>Global Times <\/span><\/i><span>applauded ZTE for being \u201cwell-prepared, calm, and unyielding in handling unfair U.S. treatment\u201d and urged other Chinese corporations to follow their example. The takeaway for the Chinese Communist paper\u2019s stable of \u201cexperts\u201d was that ZTE should not have paid any of the fines demanded by the U.S. Commerce and Treasury departments or agreed to a plea deal in the first place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><i><span>Global Times <\/span><\/i><span>further touted the supposed victory of another Chinese tech giant, Huawei, against a U.S. \u201ccrackdown\u201d as an inspiring example.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cSome believe the company won over the U.S. government after its chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou returned back to China in 2021,\u201d the article asserted, without mentioning the detail that China got Meng out of house arrest in Canada by taking several Canadians <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thediplomat.com\/2019\/12\/the-cruel-fate-of-michael-kovrig-and-michael-spavor-in-china\/\"><span>hostage<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <\/span><i><span>Global Times <\/span><\/i><span>worked ZTE\u2019s court victory into a broad rebuke of America\u2019s effort to hold Beijing responsible for the coronavirus pandemic and hailed it as a sign of Chinese authoritarianism rising in power over decadent Western democracy.
