China is blocking more and more Hollywood blockbusters from domestic screens, including major Marvel and Pixar titles that depend heavily on foreign audiences to break even.<\/p>\n<p>Now comes the latest insult: Beijing is reportedly refusing to air ABC\u2019s Academy Awards broadcast for the second straight year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>State-controlled\u00a0CCTV has no plans\u00a0to air this year\u2019s Oscars ceremony on Sunday, anonymous sources <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/china-to-skip-oscars-broadcast-for-second-year-running-1235117918\/\">told<\/a> <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>.\u00a0Hong Kong\u2019s TVB also hasn\u2019t listed the Oscars in its upcoming broadcast schedule.\u00a0The decision represents a slap to the face not only to Hollywood, but specifically The Walt Disney Co., which owns ABC and has spent the last twenty years cultivating a cozy relationship with the CCP regime.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_20361152\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/03\/GettyImages-1239309621.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>A sign announcing the upcoming Oscars Award show towers over Hollywood Boulevard, March 18, 2022, in Hollywood, California. (ROBYN BECK\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>China is boycotting the Oscars\u00a0even though the Chinese-financed <em>Dune<\/em> is among the most nominated movies of the year. <em>Dune<\/em>, which is up for ten Oscars, including best picture, was majority financed by Legendary Pictures, which is owned by China\u2019s Wanda Group.<\/p>\n<p>Sources told <em>THR<\/em> that China\u2019s decision to block the Oscars could stem from two concerns \u2014 a possible win for the documentary feature <i>Ascension<\/i>, which explores the Chinese economy, and celebrity support for Ukraine at a time when China has allied itself with Russia in that country\u2019s invasion of the former.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, China <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/03\/17\/report-beijing-bans-oscars-broadcast-over-hong-kong-protest-film-nomination\/\">blocked<\/a> the Oscars over <em>Nomadland<\/em> filmmaker Chloe Zhao, who is Chinese born and has spoken unfavorably about the CCP, and the documentary short film\u00a0<em>Do Not Split<\/em>, about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/04\/26\/oscars-2021-documentary-short-winner-acknowledges-pro-democracy-protestors-in-hong-kong\/\">pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Follow David Ng on Twitter\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HeyItsDavidNg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">@HeyItsDavidNg<\/a>.
