Mike Thompson (D-CA), John Larson (D-CT), and Lauren Underwood (D-IL) last week\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mikethompson.house.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/thompson-larson-underwood-introduce-bill-to-provide-energy-rebate-to\">proposed<\/a> the\u00a0Gas Rebate Act of 2022 where American drivers would receive a $100 energy rebate per month for the remainder of 2022.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The rebate would only be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5ny.com\/news\/gas-price-stimulus-checks-proposals-head-to-congress\">awarded<\/a> if the national average gas price exceeds $4.00 per gallon. The national average price of gas on Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\">was<\/a> $4.23, according to AAA.<\/p>\n<p>Additional constraints would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live5news.com\/2022\/03\/23\/lawmakers-addressing-high-gas-prices-proposing-monthly-energy-rebates-relief-checks\/\">apply<\/a> to \u201cthose who earn less than $75,000 and $100 for joint tax filers who earn less than $150,000,\u201d CBS\u00a0WCSC reported.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17868930\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/09\/AP_19142567438293.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Rep. Gavin Newsom (D) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/california-gov-gavin-newsom-proposes-400-rebates-for-car-owners-free-transit-gas-tax-cuts-11648132824\">proposed<\/a> to counter Biden\u2019s high gas prices by giving cash to drivers, according to the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>. \u201cMr. Newsom\u2019s $11 billion relief package, unveiled Wednesday, includes $400 direct payments to Californians per vehicle they own, capped at two vehicles. (AP Photo\/Rich Pedroncelli)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Back on the east coast, Governor of Main, Janet Mills (D), has proposed a budget gimmick that she says would hand out $850 in relief checks due to Biden\u2019s 40-year-high inflation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cInflation and increased oil and gas prices resulting from Putin\u2019s invasion of Ukraine are hitting Maine people hard,\u201d\u00a0Mills claimed, not mentioning the roughly $1.00 increase in the price of gas cost before the invasion. \u201cThis proposal will help Maine people grapple with these increased costs by putting money directly back into their pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) has taken a different tact. He has proposed a tax increase on the oil industry, which would be given to Americans in the form of a tax rebate. The name of his legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/defazio.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/rep-defazio-introduces-bill-to-fight-big-oil-s-greed-and-provide-rebates\">is<\/a> the\u00a0Stop Gas Price Gouging Tax and Rebate Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s no time for profiteering or price-gouging,\u201d DeFazio claimed. \u201cThis is why I\u2019ve introduced the Stop Gas Price Gouging Tax and Rebate Act. My legislation would tax big oil\u2019s excess profits in 2022 and return the revenue back to Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">DeFazio blaming the oil companies for Biden\u2019s high gas price comes as the industry is struggling with red tape that Biden has imposed. Specifically, Biden has made it increasingly more difficult for oil companies to gain financing to drill on private lands. Biden has also halted new drilling on public lands. Moreover, Biden has terminated the Keystone pipeline project that would have transported vast amounts of oil to American refiners.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Democrats have refused to take responsibility for the high gas prices, which has fueled inflation.
