Yet when asked to define the word \u201cwoman,\u201d Supreme Court nominee \u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tulsi Gabbard \ud83c\udf3a (@TulsiGabbard) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TulsiGabbard\/status\/1506937565894512645?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jackson would not offer a definition for woman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/im-not-a-biologist-supreme-court-nominee-says-she-cant-define-the-word-woman\">pressed Tuesday<\/a> by Republican Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn, the only female Republican to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to define what is a woman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan you provide a definition for the word \u2018woman\u2019?\u201d Blackburn asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan I provide a definition?\u201d Jackson repeated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d Blackburn said, to which Jackson replied, \u00a0\u201cI can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t?\u201d Blackburn asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot \u2014 in this context, I\u2019m not a biologist,\u201d Jackson laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you believe the meaning of the word \u2018woman\u2019 is so unclear and controversial that you can\u2019t give me a definition?\u201d Blackburn asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, in my work as a judge, what I do is I address disputes,\u201d Jackson answered. \u201cIf there is a dispute about a definition, people make arguments and I look at the law and I decide, so \u2014 I\u2019m not \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blackburn interrupted the judge to reply that \u201cthe\u00a0fact that you can\u2019t give me a straight answer about something as fundamental as what a woman is underscores the dangers of the kind of progressive education that we are hearing about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee senator pointed to controversy surrounding the NCAA Women\u2019s Swimming Championships, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia, last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Biologically male swimmer Lia Thomas competed against female swimmers,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/multiple-women-beat-lia-thomas-in-womens-200-freestyle\/\">winning first place<\/a> in the 500-yard freestyle, tying for fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle, and placing eighth in the 100-yard freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust last week an entire generation of young girls watched as our taxpayer-funded institutions permitted a biological man to compete and beat a biological woman in the NCAA swimming championships,\u201d Blackburn said to Jackson, asking, \u201cWhat message do you think this sends to girls who aspire to compete and win in sports at the highest levels?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, I\u2019m not sure what message that sends,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas has drawn nationwide backlash for swimming and competing on a women\u2019s team after <a href=\"https:\/\/pennathletics.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/lia-thomas\/19457\">racing with men<\/a> for three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means the world to be here \u2026 I try to ignore it as much as I can,\u201d Thomas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-sports\/story\/_\/id\/33529775\/amid-protests-pennsylvania-swimmer-lia-thomas-becomes-first-known-transgender-athlete-win-division-national-championship\">told ESPN<\/a> after winning the 500 freestyle. \u201cI try to focus on my swimming, what I need to do to get ready for my races.
