We\u2019re explaining the law to people and people read and understand what the law is, what the rule of law is in this country through the opinions of judges. [Emphasis added]\n<p>So <strong>they do matter, language<\/strong>. Alex Padilla (D-CA) praised Jackson\u2019s use of the terms, claiming that other judges and federal statutes regularly use \u201cdehumanizing\u201d terms when referring to illegal aliens.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBeyond our often cruel and counterproductive choices when it comes to immigration policy, the language that we use to speak about immigrants can often have dehumanizing effects,\u201d Padilla said. \u201cFor example, in the Immigration and Nationality Act, it\u2019s replete with references to \u2018aliens\u2019 and court opinions \u2026 can be found referring to undocumented persons as \u2018illegal aliens.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s be clear, no person is an alien and no human being can be illegal,\u201d Padilla said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat stood out to me is that you seemed to try to avoid making the same choice as many of your predecessors and many of your colleagues,\u201d Padilla continued. \u201cWhen not quoting statute or precedence, your opinions appear not to refer to immigrants as \u2018alien\u2019 or \u2018illegal.\u2019 Instead, you used terms like \u2018undocumented\u2019 and \u2018noncitizen.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During her second day of hearings, Jackson again <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/22\/ketanji-brown-jackson-calls-illegal-aliens-noncitizens-senate-hearing\/\">referred<\/a> to illegal aliens as \u201cnoncitizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Readers can watch day three of Jackson\u2019s confirmation hearing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/23\/watch-live-confirmation-hearing-for-supreme-court-nominee-ketanji-brown-jackson-day-3\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John Binder is a reporter for Breitbart News.
