Were those not in place, it appears that \u201csex and kissing scenes\u201d might have been performed with physical touch.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cDue to GDS\u2019 COVID restrictions, the actors were still not allowed to touch each other,\u201d the <em>Augur Bit<\/em> \u2014 the school\u2019s student newspaper \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/theaugurbit.com\/2021\/05\/16\/in-show-filmed-in-person-gds-theater-presents-and-undergoes-spring-awakening\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cThey were instructed to substitute acts like kissing with sign language gestures and had to rely on their acting skills to show intimacy while maintaining distance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSex and kissing scenes were mimed with choreographed motions, making them appear dance-like,\u201d another <em>Bit<\/em> article <a href=\"https:\/\/theaugurbit.com\/2021\/05\/31\/spring-awakening-review-two-hours-transported-to-the-black-box\/\">said<\/a>, noting that \u201cthe change was made out of necessity due to COVID restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The play that featured songs such as \u201cTouch Me\u201d and \u201cThe Word of Your Body,\u201d \u201cTotally Fucked,\u201d and \u201cThe Bitch of Living\u201d kept \u201ccounsellors on call\u201d for the student actors, according to Rosberg. [sic]\n<p>According to the student paper, some students and staff had \u201creservations\u201d about doing the play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing more exposed and immersed in what we were doing, I got a little bit desensitized,\u201d one of the actresses, a junior, said. \u201cBut the subject matter is still very heavy.\u201d Technical Director Christal Boyd also voiced concerns.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhile the show is about the very mature themes mentioned above, the much-needed messages contained in the program are especially meaningful during this pandemic in which we\u2018ve grieved death and experienced loneliness and loss,\u201d Rosberg said.<\/p>\n<p>The school cautioned that potential viewers of the play should likely be in eighth grade or above.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Fourth graders at Georgetown Day School also appear to have been forced into <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/560517119\">performative<\/a>, left-wing activism in an assembly called \u201cFree to Be Me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In this, fourth-graders were told to give presentations celebrating \u201cLGBTQ+ voices,\u201d and at one point promoted Black Lives Matter, with one-fourth grader saying, \u201cDuring the Civil Rights Movement, people of all races marched to change unfair laws. People are still protesting for racial justice as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fourth-grade teacher Julia Tomasko explained the assembly, saying, \u201cIn these scenes, the students learn about pride, activism, and what it means to be an ally.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIn order to center and uplift\u00a0LGBTQ+\u00a0voices, the scenes are inspired by lessons we taught, as well as the experience and knowledge of students and staff in the community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>After explaining what the acronym \u201cLGBTQ+\u201d means, one fourth-grader said, \u201cthere are many, many more identities in the LGBTQ+ community that we haven\u2019t learned enough about yet. They are important and we will learn more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the central themes of the presentation was that being an \u201cally\u201d was not enough, favoring activism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow let\u2019s look at a quote from Audrey Lorde, a famous poet and activist who described herself as black, lesbian mother, warrior poet,\u201d one fourth-grader said. \u201cShe said, \u2018You do not have to be me in order for us to fight alongside each other.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet another fourth-grader said, \u201cbeing an ally is all about showing up pushing back and taking action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Breccan F.
