Ben Sasse said the Supreme Court should make the decision on whether to incorporate cameras in the courtroom at Wednesday\u2019s confirmation hearing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/02\/01\/senator-finds-proof-liberals-were-ready-to-protest-any-trump-scotus-nominee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sasse<\/a> argued that the legislative branch should not make decisions for the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2016\/11\/03\/supreme-court-hosting-first-ever-live-webcast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">judicial branch<\/a>, then said his colleagues support cameras in order to have transparency. He further said while transparency is a \u201cvirtue,\u201d the lack of cameras can lead Americans to realize the negative effects film can have.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA huge part of why this institution doesn\u2019t work well is because we have cameras everywhere,\u201d Sasse said. \u201cCameras change human behavior, we know this\u2026I think we should recognize that the jackassery we often see around here is partly because of people mugging for short-term camera opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it is definitely a second, and third, fourth-order effect that the Court should think through before it has advocates in there who are not only trying to persuade you nine Justices but also trying to get on cable that night or create a viral video,\u201d he continued. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/09\/21\/amy-coney-barrett-catholic-scotus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: \u2018Disgusting Attacks On Her Faith\u2019: Sasse Condemns \u2018Anti-Catholic\u2019 Bigotry\u2019 Against Amy Coney Barrett)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said the Court does not resort to congressional \u201cbullying\u201d to place cameras in the courtroom. He also argued there are other methods to display transparency in the hearings that include audio recordings, and pen and pad.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley and Democratic Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/21\/dick-durbin-filibuster-flip-flop-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sen. Dick Durbin<\/a>, both the current chairmen of the Senate Judiciary Committee, introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/grassley-durbin-introduce-bill-to-put-cameras-in-the-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">legislation<\/a> titled, \u201cCameras Courtroom Act,\u201d in March 2021 that intended to place cameras inside the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time to put cameras in the Supreme Court so Americans can see deliberations and rulings on cases which will affect them for generations to come,\u201d Durbin said. \u201cThis bipartisan bill shines a light into the Judicial Branch of government so more than just a few hundred lucky Americans can watch proceedings in the Court\u2019s historic halls.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Nebraska Sen.
