You usually ask for it, you\u2019re given it,\u201d Durbin pushed back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay, I know you want to interrupt. I know you don\u2019t like this line of questions \u2014\u201d Cruz continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want you to play by the rules,\u201d Durbin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know you like to interrupt, but you\u2019ve consumed a substantial question \u2014 time of my questioning,\u201d Cruz continued. \u201cI\u2019m going to ask my questions and you can, if you want to testify, you\u2019re welcome to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cruz then turned back to Judge Jackson, laying out some of the details of a specific child pornography case in which Jackson had imposed the sentence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Stewart case, you said from the bench, \u2018Thus, although this is not necessarily an atypical case, your child pornography possession crime was egregious in the court\u2019s view,&#8217;\u201d Cruz quoted, adding, \u201cOkay, so this is a bad one. If you\u2019re actually sentencing defendants, you said this was egregious. What did you sentence Stewart for? The guidelines said 97-121 months.\u00a0Prosecutors said 97 months. You said, \u2018It\u2019s egregious,\u2019 6,700 images, and you come in at 57 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durbin interrupted again, saying that Cruz was over his allotted time and turning to recognize Senator Chris Coons (D-DE).<\/p>\n<p>Cruz continued to talk over Durbin, saying that he\u2019d take an answer from Jackson on any of the cases he\u2019d asked about, he has just held up that specific one as an example.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not recognized, Senator,\u201d Durbin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you not want her to answer that question?\u201d Cruz asked Durbin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t allow her anyway,\u201d Durbin grumbled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Chairman, she may answer the question. I\u2019ve asked her why she sentenced Stewart, an egregious \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, you\u2019re over time by two minutes,\u201d Durbin interrupted again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause you\u2019ve interrupted me for two minutes,\u201d Cruz replied. \u201cMister Chairman, will you allow her to answer the question, or do you not want the American people to hear why, with someone she described as an \u2018egregious\u2019 \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere comes a point, Senator, where you get a little bit \u2014\u201d Durbin interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChairman Durbin, will you allow her to answer the question?\u201d Cruz asked again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou won\u2019t allow her to answer the question,\u201d Durbin objected.<\/p>\n<p>The two continued to talk over each other, and Durbin once again attempted to recognize Senator Coons.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhy are you not allowing her to answer the question? There\u2019s not another Senator here that\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ve<span>\u00a0not allowed her to answer the question,\u201d Cruz pressed again. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou\u2019re finished,\u201d Durbin declared, as Cruz continued to protest that he was not trying to ask another question, only to get an\u00a0answer to the question he had already asked. \u201cWhy do you not want the American people to know what happened in the Stewart case? Or any of these cases?
