Ron DeSantis (R) on the bill and was smacked down by the governor, presumably for inaccurately framing the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[DeSantis] bit your head off,\u201d Caputo told the fellow reporter. \u201cHe sees an opportunity here for the news media to not live up to its own standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reporter highlighted the Left\u2019s \u201cefforts\u201d to call out so-called \u201clies\u201d from from former President Donald Trump, but are not doing so with the Florida bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made a big deal during Trump years, and rightfully so, and critics did, that the news media needs to start calling lies lies, and be very clear if something was baseless, was without fact, was supported or not supported by evidence or without evidence, and if something was false, we\u2019d say he falsely stated it,\u201d Caputo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, to say this actually says \u2018don\u2019t say gay\u2019 is false,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us to say, \u2018oh, the \u201cdon\u2019t say gay\u201d bill,\u2019 that would be a similar thing \u2014 similar, not exactly the same \u2014 of us during Obamacare saying, \u2018Oh, well the Obamacare bill is the \u201cdeath panel bill,\u201d because that\u2019s what the opponents call it.\u2019 Well, it wasn\u2019t the \u2018death panel bill,&#8217;\u201d Caputo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, again, when you read the four corners of this document, it doesn\u2019t say, \u2018don\u2019t say gay,&#8217;\u201d the NBC reporter emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida Senate earlier this month passed the Parental Rights in Education bill, which would \u201cban teachers in kindergarten through third grade from providing instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation, require schools to notify parents if there has been any change in a student\u2019s physical, emotional, or mental wellbeing, and would also provide legal recourse to parents to sue if they believe a school has violated any of those agreements,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/florida-senate-passes-bill-banning-instruction-on-sex-and-gender-for-kindergarten-through-third-grade\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported. \u201cIt would also teachers to withhold certain information from parents if there is a \u2018reasonable\u2019 belief notifying them would result in abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p><strong>Related:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/florida-senate-passes-bill-banning-instruction-on-sex-and-gender-for-kindergarten-through-third-grade\">Florida Senate Passes Bill Banning Instruction On Sex And Gender For Kindergarten Through Third\u00a0Grade<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
