Costs at the pump skyrocketed even further in the wake of Russia&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine, which saw global markets disrupted and many countries boycott Russian gas.<\/p>\n<p>California has the highest gas prices in the country, in large part a result of its stiff gas taxes.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans representing California have urged Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/republicans-newsom-california-gas-tax-inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to suspend<\/a> the state&#8217;s gas tax, which is 51 cents per gallon.<\/p>\n<p>As California taxpayers bear the brunt of record gas prices, state lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/newsletter\/2022-03-21\/will-a-gas-rebate-actually-happen-in-california-what-we-know-so-far-essential-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are considering<\/a> an emergency cash injection to make up for the financial strain of paying for gas.
