Lindsey Graham got into a heated exchange over Guantanamo Bay detainees and stormed out of the Tuesday confirmation hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/21\/house-republicans-ken-buck-letter-investigation-senate-judiciary-committee-supreme-court-ketanji-brown-jackson-sentences-sex-offenders-child-porn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chairman<\/a> of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/12\/biden-administration-announces-review-process-for-closing-guantanamo-bay-detention-camp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guantanamo<\/a> detainees are being held at around $12-13 million per year and argued it would be \u201cdramatically cheaper\u201d to transfer the inmates to a Florence, Colorado prison. He then said the recidivism rate of a released detainee is 5%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Chairman, according to the Director of National Intelligence, it\u2019s 31%,\u201d Graham interjected. \u201cSomebody is wrong here. If you\u2019re gonna talk about what I said I\u2019m going to respond to what you said. If we close Gitmo and move them to Colorado, do you support indefinite detention under war for these detainees?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to be clear here that I\u2019m giving the facts\u2014,\u201d Durbin responded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe answer is no,\u201d Graham interrupted. \u201cWhat does it matter when it goes back to? We had them and they got loose and they started killing people. If you were one of the people killed in 2005, does it matter to you when we release them?\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/21\/lindsey-graham-promises-ketanji-brown-jackson-will-not-vilified-brett-kavanaugh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018You Will Not Be Vilified\u2019: Graham Takes Shot At Democrats Who Went After Kavanaugh During Ketanji Brown Jackson Hearing)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Graham continued to interject saying the \u201csystem has failed miserably\u201d and releasing detainees would endanger the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs long as they\u2019re dangerous, I hope they all die in jail if they\u2019re gonna go back and kill Americans,\u201d the South Carolina senator continued. \u201cIt won\u2019t bother me one bit if 39 of them die in prison. That\u2019s a better outcome than letting them go and if it costs $500 million to keep them in jail, keep them in jail because they\u2019re gonna go back to the fight! Look at the friggin Afghan government, it\u2019s made up of former detainees in Gitmo. This whole thing by the left about this war ain\u2019t working!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graham then got up from his seat and walked away from the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>A recurring topic at the hearing regarded Supreme Court nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/22\/ketanji-brown-jackson-child-pornography-sentencing-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ketanji Brown Jackson\u2019s<\/a> representation of four Guantanamo Bay detainees during her time serving as a public defender. She <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/22\/pick-clients-judge-jackson-defends-representing-guantanamo-bay-detainees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">defended<\/a> her past record arguing that a criminal defense lawyer does not choose their clients and defends their clients in order to serve the Constitution and the court.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican South Carolina Sen.
