Ron DeSantis (R) signed a measure Tuesday making a financial literacy class a requirement for high school students.<\/p>\n<p>Flanked by several individuals, including Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran and Senate President Wilton Simpson, DeSantis explained they are working to provide students with the \u201cfullest education possible,\u201d as the Sunshine State is devoted to high standards.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cToday I think is good because what the bill\u2019s doing with financial literacy is really providing a foundation for students that\u2019s going to be applicable in their lives regardless of what path they take,\u201d he said during the Pasco County press conference.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cI think that what we\u2019re doing here today, we\u2019re going to be signing S.B. 1054 \u2026 it will require all Florida high school students to meet a financial literacy, one half-credit requirement in order to graduate,\u201d DeSantis explained, noting it will be applied in the \u201923-\u201924 school year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">This will \u201cprovide a foundation for students to learn about the basics of money management, understanding debt, understanding how to balance a check book, understanding the fundamentals of investing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-bdVaJa dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-2 cynzxG\">\u201cAny financial literacy has really been intertwined with economics courses, which you know, economics is a little bit different than financial literacy.
